Project in focus: Holiday Inn & Suites Geelong, Australia
by Lauren Jade Hill | 10 Apr 2021 | Hotel Projects
This forthcoming Holiday Inn-branded hotel in the picturesque coastal city of Geelong will strengthen IHG’s geographic footprint across Australia.
Aiming to open next year, the 180-key newbuild property will sit within a wider mixed-use development.
A milestone for the city’s hotel scene
In November 2017, IHG revealed that a 20-year management agreement had been struck with Franzé Developments to open and operate Holiday Inn & Suites Geelong. At the time of the announcement, it was stated that this would be the first new hotel to open in Geelong in more than two decades.
This flagship hotel will form part of Franzé Developments’ planned mixed-use site, which covers an area of over 33,000 sq m. Overall, the scheme is expected to include around 10,000 sq m of retail and office space, along with 24 residences, co-working space and the hotel.
Architectus and Hansen Partnership are working on the design and urban-planning elements of the ambitious project.
An appealing base for exploring Geelong
On opening, the hotel will boast 180 guestrooms (of which 40 will be designed as suites for longer stays), an all-day dining restaurant and bar, and 300 sq m of meeting facilities. Additional amenities will include a fitness centre and swimming pool, plus parking.
Located in the city’s CBD, the hotel site is within easy reach of the station, the university, the hospital and several offices. The vibrant port city of Geelong lies south-west of Melbourne and close to the Great Ocean Road.
Holiday Inn & Suites Geelong is currently expected to open in the third quarter of 2022.
