We take a closer look at eye-catching plans to build a Corinthia hotel within the Gewan Island development off the coast of the Qatari capital.

Expected to reach completion at the end of 2022, this upscale property will house 110 spacious guestrooms along with sprawling event space, all-day dining facilities, specialty restaurants and a luxurious spa.

Corinthia Hotels teams up with UDC

In March 2020, Corinthia Hotels announced the signing of an agreement with United Development Company (UDC) to manage and operate a Corinthia-branded hotel within the latter’s new flagship real estate development, Gewan Island. Currently in the planning phase, the property is to be constructed by UDC.

Corinthia Doha, featuring architecture, interiors and landscape design by multidisciplinary firm AE7, will span an area of 13,000 sq m and encompass 110 guestrooms, a banquet hall and outdoor patio for up to 1,000 people, an all-day dining offering including specialty restaurants and a luxurious spa facility. Corinthia Hotels will also manage a host of luxury branded villas, a golf course and a beach club.

A new lifestyle destination

Overall, the Gewan Island development will encompass a staggering 400,000 sq m; on completion, it’ll accommodate no fewer than 3,500 residents, along with a similar number of visitors daily.

The site’s 714 residential units will comprise 641 apartments, 20 standalone villas in a gated community, 21 beachfront villas with a private beach, 26 water villas with private pontoons and six island villas. Gewan Island’s offering will be further enhanced by the inclusion of 11,000 sq m of retail and multi-use buildings, a ‘crystal walkway’ outdoor promenade, entertainment facilities, a sports club and a mosque.
