Moxy doubles down on Glasgow
Marriott International’s youth-oriented brand has opened a second property in the city, just a short walk away from one of the UK’s largest music arenas.
With the debut of Moxy Glasgow SEC, the quirky brand now boasts two impressive locations in the city centre.
Moxy comes back for more
Situated just around the corner from the Ovo Hydro, previously known as the SSE Hydro, the city’s sophomore Moxy hotel offers 243 modern rooms, 13 suites, a 24-hour gym and two small meeting rooms. Like its predecessor Moxy Glasgow Merchant City, Moxy Glasgow SEC reflects the brand’s fun approach, efficient use of space and dedication to embracing modern travel trends and technology.
The hotel’s design team sought inspiration from the Ovo Hydro for its decor. Throughout the property, guests will find musical paraphernalia dotted around, not least a drumkit, a light rig frame, amps and drumsticks hanging from the ceiling, alongside colourful graffiti and contemporary art.
Donovan Sumner, regional director of operations UK for Moxy Glasgow SEC’s operator Hotel Co 51, said: “Glasgow is a great city and we’re proud to make this our 13th UK opening. We continue to embrace the cheeky and free-spirited atmosphere that Moxy has become famous for.”
A focus on sustainability
The property was constructed using prefabricated modular building techniques. It’s also implemented a number of measures to improve sustainability on the operational side, including mobile keys, recycling bins in each room and bulk toiletry containers to minimise plastic waste.
Moxy Glasgow SEC’s opening coincided with the city hosting the Cop26 climate conference.
“Cop26 was our first piece of business, and the hotel was full for the duration,” said David Steele, captain (general manager) of Moxy Glasgow SEC. “It’s been a challenging year for the hospitality industry but to open and have every bedroom full for the conference was a great way to kick off this fabulous new hotel.”
