InterContinental earmarked for San Antonio hotel conversion

Scarlett Hotel Group and Trailbreak Partners have announced plans to convert a newly acquired San Antonio property into an InterContinental hotel following a US$50 million renovation.
IHG’s luxury brand InterContinental will soon gain a foothold in the thriving Texan city of San Antonio.
A major transformation
Scarlett Hotel Group has purchased the former Wyndham San Antonio River Walk in San Antonio as part of a joint venture with Trailbreak Partners. The new owners have now closed the property and are embarking on a US$50 million transformation programme, with plans to reopen it as a 390-key InterContinental hotel in early 2023.
“Turning this property into a luxury hotel is an amazing opportunity for us to contribute to the city of San Antonio,” said Zio Pekovic, principal and co-founder of Scarlett Hotel Group. “San Antonio has been ranked within the top three cities for conferences for many years and we’re proud to bring a luxury hotel brand like InterContinental into the central business district, minutes from the Henry B González Convention Center.”
Jordan Scharg, principal at Trailbreak Partners, added: “San Antonio continues to be a leading city for conferences. Meeting and conference planners looking at convention locations for 2023 and beyond will have a brand-new, high-end lodging option in San Antonio right on the River Walk.”
A new era for the property
The hotel is located in the heart of downtown on San Antonio River Walk. This 21-storey building, which was originally built as offices in 1958, lies adjacent to the Weston Centre and boasts a rooftop pool with downtown views as well as direct access to the river taxi landing area.
Following renovation work, the only InterContinental hotel in San Antonio will feature 40,000 sq ft of meeting and event space, upgraded F&B options, almost 3,000 sq ft of dining space and luxurious rooftop amenities.
“The InterContinental brand is recognised by travellers around the world for unparalleled luxury, sophistication and superior, personalised service and we are excited to partner with SHG and Trailbreak Partners to bring the brand to the San Antonio’s landmark River Walk,” said Julienne Smith, senior vice president of development in the Americas for IHG.
