British hospitality company IHG is continuing to expand rapidly across Europe, with the signing of its first luxury hotel in Mallorca.

Expected to open in 2022, this new hotel will raise the Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants brand’s profile across Spain, following on from the launch of Kimpton Vividora Hotel in Barcelona in early 2020.

Bringing Kimpton to Mallorca

Operating under a management agreement with Calvia Country Club, Kimpton Mallorca promises to bring the brand’s signature laidback approach to luxury to the Spanish island. The 79-room boutique hotel will lie alongside renowned golf course Santa Ponsa Golf, where the Santa Ponsa Country Club is currently located.

The existing site will undergo a transformation and extension to bring Kimpton to the verdant south-west of Mallorca, which is less than 30 minutes from Palma de Mallorca Airport. Through this process, Kimpton will instil its style of customer service, ‘want-for-nothing’ amenities, bold design and distinctive restaurants and bars into the scheme.

“We all know that 2020 has been a year of missed holidays and as soon as people are able to travel again they will be looking for experiences steeped in meaningful human connection and in destinations rich in culture and natural beauty; both of which will be abundant at Kimpton Mallorca,” said Karin Sheppard, SVP, managing director for Europe at IHG. “With this signing we are expanding our offering to the luxury traveller and adding to our strong pipeline of luxury hotels and resorts in Europe over the next few years.

“I’m particularly delighted to see the expansion of our luxury portfolio in Southern Europe, home to so many popular leisure destinations. We already have a strong presence in both mainstream and upscale segments and are now delighted to be expanding our presence in the luxury space, too. This signing once again shows the strength of our brands and the confidence that owners and investors have in IHG.”

According to the TOPHOTELCONSTRUCTION online database, Kimpton’s pipeline currently comprises 32 hotel projects:

The Kimpton Mallorca experience

At this new property, guests will be able to make the most of their stays thanks to the inclusion of two outdoor pools, one with direct access to the beach, as well as an indoor pool, tennis courts, a spa with 16 treatment rooms, and a yoga studio. More than 300 sq m of multifunctional event space will provide the venue for a variety of meetings and events as well.

The hotel will provide a stylish base for exploring an island that’s become one of Europe’s most popular destinations. Referred to as the ‘Star of the Mediterranean’, Mallorca is celebrated for its picturesque coastlines, dramatic landscapes and quaint local villages.

Following recent announcements for Six Senses Rome, Six Senses Antognolla and InterContinental Rome, Kimpton Mallorca is the latest high-profile addition to IHG’s portfolio. The company currently has 44 luxury hotels in Europe and another 17 in the pipeline.
