Marriott International has been buoyed by the launch of Moxy Utrecht, which features 172 rooms and a 100-seat terrace overlooking one of the Dutch city’s pretty canals.

Moxy Utrecht is a stylish addition to Marriott International’s portfolio in the Netherlands.

A convenient location in Utrecht

Vastint Hospitality has completed development of Moxy Utrecht next to the Vaartsche Rijn canal and railway station, just a short walk from several major tourist attractions. Operated by Hotel Co 51, the newbuild property is now inviting guests to discover the hip Rotsoord area of the city. Marriott stalwart Jordy Smit is the hotel’s captain (general manager).

The JHK Architecten-designed scheme has 172 rooms in total, of which nine are suitable for families and accessible to the disabled. It also boasts a bar, serving a variety of cocktails, and a large sun terrace with 100 seats fronting the canal.

Instagram-friendly furnishings

In keeping with the Moxy brand’s ethos, the project incorporates a host of location-specific elements. For instance, a huge Rietveld chair serves as an Instagram-friendly focal point in the lobby, while the Rietveld colours are again evident in the edgy graffiti artwork. The lobby also showcases chairs from the nearby Pastoe factory, plus a table made from an old tree that once grew in the city, while the hallway features a large pen drawing of Utrecht on the wall.

Last but not least, Moxy Utrecht contains a breakfast area, a meeting room and an onsite fitness centre for guests to burn off some calories during their stay.
