While browsing the TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database, our researchers have found that the luxury brand has ambitious growth plans for APAC and North America.

The Ritz-Carlton is rapidly increasing its footprint in key strategic markets – 54 hotel schemes with 11,009 rooms are currently under development around the world, according to our data. We take a closer look at the pipeline of Marriott International’s luxury brand and pick out a few key projects.

New Ritz-Carlton openings by year

In the last couple of months of 2021, Ritz-Carlton is planning to embark upon five more openings, with 883 rooms between them.

Next year’s also looking busy, with 20 launches set to bring 4,124 additional rooms into play. The following year, 2023, will be slightly quieter as only nine new properties and 2,158 keys are scheduled to go live at present. However, for 2024 and beyond, another 20 hotels with 3,844 rooms have already been pencilled in.

Major growth regions for the brand

APAC is clearly the brand’s main focus in the near future – 29 properties with 6,549 rooms will open here in the coming years. North America is posting strong numbers too – 14 projects and 2,707 rooms will be developed across the region.

Five openings with 768 rooms are scheduled for Africa, while three launches with 279 keys have been earmarked for Europe, and two hotels with 386 rooms are being lined up for Latin America.

Meanwhile, China is by far the biggest national growth market, with 19 properties and 4,337 keys on the cards, well ahead of the US (seven projects, 1,578 rooms) and Australia (three schemes, 713 keys).

Ritz-Carlton projects we can’t wait to see finished

Let’s first take a look at The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Chongqing Jiangbeizui in central China. This 300-room hotel will open in late 2022 as part of the Chongqing Junhao International Business and Finance Centre, a mixed-use complex featuring high-end retail, offices and of course hotels. From the property, guests will be able to quickly reach a host of major entertainment areas, cultural sites and business districts.

Now we’ll turn our attention to The Ritz-Carlton Manhattan Nomad, which should open its doors before the end of the year. This 250-key scheme will include hotel rooms and branded residences, a fine-dining restaurant, the Ritz-Carlton brand’s Club Lounge, a spa, a fitness centre and a rooftop bar. There’ll also be a garden and open terraces, as well as two ballrooms for corporate and social gatherings.

Further down the line, in early 2023, The Ritz-Carlton Portland will start welcoming guests. A 389-key scheme occupying part of a striking mixed-use tower, it boasts a convenient location just a short walk from Pioneer Courthouse Square and Pioneer Place. Once open, the hotel will feature high-end amenities including a fitness centre, full-service spa and swimming pool on the 19th floor, and a restaurant and bar on the 20th floor with panoramic views of Portland and the Cascade Mountains.
