A new development in the Algarve is being recognised for its commitment to sustainability ahead of its 2022 opening.

2022 is set to see the opening of one of the Algarve’s most hotly anticipated hotel developments, the Viceroy at Ombria Resort. We take a look inside this exciting new project.

A luxurious oasis in the Algarve

The Porguguese hospitality industry is eagerly awaiting an exciting new hotel and residential development on the popular tourist destination of the Algarve. The Viceroy Algarve will take pride of place at the new Quinta de Ombria property, a 5-star luxury new-build resort currently under construction and due to open in the first quarter of 2022. The resort will feature 76 luxe guestrooms and suites, as well as 65 residences, surrounded by an 18-hole golf course, luscious vegetation and citrus groves, local farms and quaint rural villages.

A bastion of sustainability

Although the property in only due to be completed at the beginning of 2022, it has already been lauded for its commitment to sustainable practices, both its in design and construction and service offering. It was recently awarded Best Sustainable Residential Development, Portugal at the 2019-2020 European Property Awards. This was the first year that this category has been introduced at these prestigious real estate awards, so it is a huge honour for the Viceroy at Ombria Resort to have captured the imagination of the judges, who assessed the winner on their economic, environmental and social responsibility. The resort employs a number of sustainability initiatives which include Nearly Zero Energy Buildings, a shallow geothermal system, bioclimatic architecture and a recycling programme.

Features and amenities

The complex boasts a variety of accommodation options, with 147 rooms spread between suites and private residences. The architecture draws on traditional Portugeuese villages in its conception, and there are a number of distinct volumes housing different amenities that are centred around a common outdoor pool area. A state of the art contemporary spa provides ample opportunity for guests to relax and rejuvenate, while foodies will delight in the local culinary delicacies that are executed with the flair of talented gourmet chefs.
