Our Project of the Week title goes to a towering hotel-and-residences scheme in the Qatari capital that’s being billed as Swissôtel’s new Middle East flagship.

All eyes are on Qatar as it prepares to host the 2022 World Cup, prompting a slew of exciting hospitality projects across the country.

An ambitious development

Accor originally announced this landmark project – Swissôtel’s first combined hotel-and-residential project in the Middle East – in summer 2020 after signing a management agreement with Qatar Industrial Manufacturing Company (QIMC). It’s set to occupy a spectacular two-tower mixed-use development in the bustling city of Doha.

The eye-catching development will house a 350-room five-star hotel, along with 121 luxury branded residences. Arab Engineering Bureau is overseeing the architecture, while EMA is working on the interiors.

The towers are strategically located in the city’s prestigious West Bay area, providing easy access to commercial, government, corporate and leisure districts, and placing the property within walking distance of the West Bay QIC metro station. Moreover, the project is close to the Doha Exhibition & Convention Centre, the World Trade Centre and the Lusail City mega-development.

An architectural masterpiece

The architecturally impressive complex will contain four podium and mezzanine levels of restaurants and luxury retail connected to a 29-storey tower housing residences and a 23-storey commercial tower with QIMC’s headquarters on the 23rd floor.

Guests will be accommodated in the hotel’s 200 guestrooms, including 60 suites, and 150 serviced apartments, spanning studios, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units. These will be joined by 121 one-, two- and three-bedroom for-sale branded residences.

Facilities within the property, available to residents as well as guests, are to include four restaurants, 750 sq m of meeting space, an expansive spa, a health and fitness centre, a swimming pool and a kids’ club. The residences will also benefit from a top-floor Residential Lounge, commanding impressive views and including a private swimming pool and gym.

The property is expected to open in Q4 2022.
