Project of the Week: Kimpton Rotterdam
by Lauren Jade Hill | 05 Jul 2021 | Project of the Week, Projects

Earmarked for Rotterdam’s historic Post building, this inspiring Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants property has won our latest Project of the Week title.
The eye-catching Kimpton Rotterdam scheme involves restoring a heritage landmark at the heart of the city centre.
Transforming a Rotterdam icon
Aiming to make its debut in the second quarter of 2022 as Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants’ second property in the Netherlands, Kimpton Rotterdam promises to inspire guests with its luxurious interiors, reflecting its location in the former Central Post Office, which dates back to 1921. This landmark of the city’s Coolsingel district was one of the only structures to remain standing after the infamous Rotterdam Blitz in 1940.
The project, which will feature around 230 keys, is being brought to life by a creative team that includes ODA and Braaksma & Roos Architecten. Its interiors will draw inspiration from the building’s history, with influence taken from elements of the past like handwritten letters and wax seals.
Combining the expertise of Omnam Group and Kimpton
Kimpton Rotterdam is being developed by Omnam Group in line with Kimpton’s distinctive approach to luxury hospitality. Kimpton owner IHG signed up for the scheme in November 2018.
Speaking at the time, Omnam Group founder and CEO David Zisser said: “The magnificent Post building deserves a carefully customised approach to design and hospitality. The Kimpton brand and philosophy is, simply put, a 100% fit. We are convinced that Post will become an international icon where people from all over the world will come, stay and enjoy.”
