The latest Taiwanese development for Okura Nikko Hotels is located within the island’s second largest city, Kaohsiung.

This newbuild hotel, which is slated for a 2023 debut, will be aimed at business and leisure travellers wanting to visit a city that’s rapidly growing in popularity. We take a closer look at what to expect.

Harbourside hospitality from Okura Nikko Hotels

Okura Nikko Hotel Management has partnered with developer Continental Development Corporation to create this brand-new property in Kaohsiung. An impressive structure is being planned, with 21 floors above ground and four more below ground.

The prominent scheme is to house 260 guest rooms, each spanning around 36 sq m, along with a variety of restaurants serving Japanese and Chinese cuisine among others, plus an all-day dining restaurant. In addition, the 21st floor will feature a rooftop bar, delivering eye-popping views over Kaohsiung’s harbour.

Strategic growth across Taiwan

Speaking when the hotel was announced in January 2020, Marcel P van Aelst, CEO, Okura Nikko Hotel Management, said: “We are very pleased to be opening our fourth hotel in Taiwan. We will be expanding our network with a particular focus on Asia, and Taiwan is a fast-developing market and a strategic destination for us. We hope to further raise awareness of our Okura Nikko Hotels brand in Taiwan.”

Okura Nikko Hotel Management has contracted Fanlu Construction Industry to manage the new property, while Yasui Architects & Interiors is behind the design. The scheme’s currently expected to open in the fourth quarter of 2023.
