Montage International and Eagle Four Partners have announced plans to transform an existing property in California, with help from the likes of WATG, Studio Munge and Burton Studio.

The proposed creation of Pendry’s latest outpost involves the reimagination of the former Fashion Island Hotel.

Making a mark in Newport Beach

Pendry Newport Beach will open in summer 2023 as the brand’s third southern California property, Montage International and Eagle Four Partners have revealed. The new hotel is located just moments from what’s considered one of Orange County’s premier shopping destinations, Fashion Island.

This ambitious revamp of the former Fashion Island Hotel will feature the architectural design of WATG, interiors from Studio Munge and landscape architecture courtesy of Burton Studio.

“We have had incredible growth with Pendry this past year, opening hotels from coast to coast in some of America’s most vibrant destinations,” said Alan J Fuerstman, founder, chairman and CEO of Montage International. “Now we have an irreplaceable location for Pendry Newport Beach, and an opportunity to bring the Pendry experience ‘home’ to Orange County where both the Montage and Pendry brands originated.”

Kory Kramer of Eagle Four Partners added: “As local owners, we are thrilled to be the new stewards of the former Fashion Island Hotel at the heart of Newport Beach. We are dedicated to continuously investing in Newport Beach and elevating the hospitality experience of our neighbours and guests.

“We are grateful to the Irvine Company for entrusting us with this responsibility and sharing our vision as we collaborate with Montage International to create something extraordinary.”

A new lifestyle venue

Aimed at domestic and international leisure customers, businessmen, families and locals, Pendry Newport Beach will accommodate travellers across 295 guestrooms, including 82 suites, with floor-to-ceiling windows opening up onto balconies and patios with ocean, harbour and bay views.

This accommodation will be joined by three lounge, restaurant and bar experiences. Standout amenities will include a pool with sundeck and cabanas, as well as a private members’ club focused on community and bespoke experiences that connect a diverse group of people.

Moreover, the property will be home to a fitness centre and Spa Pendry featuring eight treatment rooms and a signature wellness programme. And events will be hosted in more than 14,000 sq ft of meeting and event space, not least an 8,710 sq ft ballroom.

“It is an absolute thrill and honour to bring our vision for Pendry and new luxury to Newport Beach, the place we call home,” said Michael Fuerstman, co-founder and creative director of Pendry Hotels & Resorts. “Pendry Newport Beach will be a sophisticated, modern and artistic luxury hotel for guests and locals, with an elevated dining, nightlife, wellness and social scene, as well as a wholly original, one-of-a-kind community-focused social membership club. We look forward to creating a distinct destination within Newport Beach.”
