JW Marriott Hotel Shanghai Fengxian, featuring a distinctive style narrative by PLD, is the 50th Marriott International property to open in the Shanghai region as the hotel giant continues to expand across China.

With 265 rooms and a string of appealing F&B venues, JW Marriott Hotel Shanghai Fengxian is an impressive addition to Marriott International’s Chinese portfolio.

Marriott reaches major milestone in Shanghai

This highly anticipated opening is situated in the seaside neighbourhood of Fengxian on Hangzhou Bay, a popular recreational destination for Shanghai residents at weekends. The area’s known far and wide for its traditional beachfronts, national forest park and historic town centre, which the hotel taps into by providing panoramic views out over the nearby Jianhai Lake.

Henry Lee, president of Greater China for Marriott International, said: “We are delighted to celebrate the opening of the 50th property in Shanghai, a testament to the phenomenal growth of Marriott International in this region.

“Across Greater China, there are now over 400 Marriott hotels spanning 23 brands in more than 90 cities, indicating our confidence in the strong growth of the travel market in China. We look forward to expanding our portfolio further, and to offer distinctive and personalised experiences to travellers here.”

Exciting design and a unique offering

The property’s immediately recognisable by its sinuous, curvilinear design, with two parallel structures that overlap at the end. Designed by PLD, the hotel’s style narrative is inspired by nature, incorporating lore such as the ‘Roc hopping into the sea’ fable into its exteriors and making extensive use of materials like marble and wood throughout. In total, JW Marriott Hotel Shanghai Fengxian comprises 265 well-appointed guest rooms and suites, each of which is executed in soothing palettes that echo the picturesque surroundings.

Guests can choose from three stylish restaurants and a bar, whose menus rely on produce taken straight from the hotel garden. JW Kitchen offers both local and international fare, while Yan Xuan boasts 15 fine-dining spaces that can accommodate a range of different occasions, and signature restaurant Shanghai Crab & Co serves seafood in a memorable space featuring tanks filled with crustaceans. There’s also the all-day Lobby Lounge for visitors to linger in.

Business travellers can avail themselves of the hotel’s conference facilities, which include a 1,800 sq m meeting area, a 900 sq m banquet hall, a 600 sq m multi-purpose hall and four multifunctional rooms, as well as an executive lounge perfect for individual meetings and catch-ups. Not to be overlooked, meanwhile, is Spa by JW, a relaxing state-of-the-art wellness facility; guests can also work up a sweat at the 24-hour fitness centre or the 25-metre heated infinity pool.

Jennie Toh, vice president, brand marketing and brand management, Asia Pacific, Marriott International, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to welcome this new addition of JW Marriott in Shanghai, the fourth JW Marriott to open in this world-class city. With 19 distinctive brands operating in Shanghai, we are poised to offer endless choices and curated experiences for every guest through the breadth of our portfolio.”
