Madrid welcomes Spain’s first Canopy by Hilton hotel
by Lauren Jade Hill | 26 Sep 2021 | Design
Designed by Jaime Beriestain Studio, the 314-room Canopy by Hilton Madrid Castellana provides a boutique stay focusing on local culture in the Azca financial district.
This property places guests within striking distance of popular attractions like Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabéu Stadium and the tree-lined Paseo de la Castellana.
A reflection of the neighbourhood
Having undergone a complete refurbishment before opening as Canopy by Hilton Madrid Castellana, the building’s interiors are designed to be lived in and enjoyed, reflecting the locale through inspired design.
The property really stands out thanks to its ‘Red’ Madrid design theme, highlighting Madrileño culture. Jaime Beriestain Studio led the revamp, giving each space, from the 314 guestrooms to 12 meeting rooms, a distinct neighbourhood and city feel.
“We wanted to create an airy, open space, without barriers so that people could meet, see and be seen,” said Beriestain. “For me, Madrid symbolises the colour red; it is a place where passion reigns and different, connecting cultures converge. That is why it is so important to offer the city a space that reflects that philosophy, a place to connect and meet – that is the concept behind Canopy by Hilton Madrid Castellana.”
Space to socialise and unwind
The hotel comprises an airy, open lobby featuring the gastronomic meeting point Canopy Central, where guests can enjoy specialty coffees and food showcasing local healthy ingredients.
It also boasts mezzanine venue Planta Z, offering street food-style cuisine with an extensive cocktail menu and live music. Visitors can then retreat to the hotel’s Pool Terrace, commanding views over Madrid’s skyline.
“This stylish hotel truly emanates the iconic city of Madrid, offering travellers an authentically local experience,” said David Kelly, senior vice president, Continental Europe, Hilton. “Our third opening in the Spanish capital in the last year and Spain’s first Canopy by Hilton, we’re excited to launch yet another enticing option here in Spain for travellers visiting from across the globe, including the more than 118 million members of our award-winning Hilton Honors guest loyalty programme.”
The scheme is owned by Hotel Investment Partners (HIP), which has invested €37 million into the refurbishment. HIP has struck an agreement with Barceló Hotel Group to manage the scheme, which is being marketed under the Canopy by Hilton brand.
