Hilton Worldwide has signed the first Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts property in Costa Rica in an agreement with local developer Garnier & Garnier.

Waldorf Astoria Guanacaste will be owned by Revolution and Cacique Investors LLC, with GFG Securities LLC raising equity and debt financing.

Sustainable luxury

The five star hotel is expected to debut in 2025, furthering Hilton’s Costa Rica and luxury footprint.

Located on a peninsula in Guanacaste province, Waldorf Astoria Guanacaste will offer 190 guestrooms, including a Presidential Suite compound, and 25 Waldorf Astoria-branded residences. The property will focus on sustainable luxury with an emphasis on architecture that blends into the surroundings, native flora and fauna, and offerings that connect guests with the natural environment. All resort vehicles utilised on the property will be electric.

All amenities

Boasting panoramic views overlooking the ocean, Waldorf Astoria Guanacaste will feature an ‘El Pueblo’ lobby area and hub, and a selection of food and beverage offerings, including a signature restaurant and bar, a specialty outlet and a gelato shop.

Other amenities will include a holistic wellness centre with a state-of-the-art gym, movement studio, outdoor yoga, and lap and thermal pools. The cenote-inspired spa will have eight treatment rooms, plus three outdoor treatment rooms emulating a treehouse, along with a variety of signature Waldorf Astoria Spa treatments. The resort’s family-friendly provision includes a kids’ centre and teen’s club. For groups and events, the luxury property will offer approximately 10,000 square feet of meeting and event facilities, including indoor and outdoor space, an event lawn and a ceremonial pavilion for weddings.

Sought-after destination

Chris Nassetta, president and CEO, Hilton, said: “Hilton has always been committed to serving any guest, for any travel need, anywhere in the world, and we’re thrilled to expand our presence with the first Waldorf Astoria in Costa Rica. Costa Rica is a fast-growing and highly sought-after destination that is an ideal place to introduce the world-class personal service of our Waldorf Astoria brand.”

Steve Case, chairman and CEO, Revolution, added: “Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts offers impeccable service in some of the most sought-after destinations across the globe and together with our partners, we look forward to welcoming guests to experience one of the most unique destinations in Central America firsthand. With more than 200 miles of scenic coastline and some of the region’s most extraordinary ecosystems, we are delighted to introduce guests to this world-class sustainable luxury destination and help connect them to the natural beauty and local culture that the Cacique Costa Rica community has to offer.”

Milestone signing

This hotel marks a milestone signing for Hilton’s Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts brand, as it welcomes a new destination to its portfolio of more than 30 properties around the world and builds upon the luxury brand’s presence of resorts in the Caribbean and Latin America, such as Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal and Waldorf Astoria Cancun, which opened in November 2022.

Throughout the Caribbean and Latin America, Hilton currently has a portfolio of 200 hotels and a development pipeline of more than 100 hotels. These include Bermudiana Beach Resort, Tapestry Collection by Hilton in Bermuda, bringing 111 keys online in Q4 2023; the 70-room Hilton Garden Inn Cartagena, arriving in Bocagrande, Colombia, in Q4 2023; and in the same quarter, 73-key site Tranquility Beach Resort Dominica, Curio Collection by Hilton, will be opening in the island nation.
