Design showcase: Top five landscape-inspired designs

by | 13 Oct 2021 | Design

Roaming freely from Italy to New Zealand, our latest TOPHOTELDESIGN exclusive highlights five hotels with bold concepts embracing the majesty of the Great Outdoors.

We all know who the best designer really is: Mother Nature.

Embracing the environmental lobby

In fact, the first human homes were part of the landscape itself. After thousands of years, humans left the caves and the first architectural designs were created.

These were tightly bound to the landscape, using local materials, adjusting to the weather conditions, the seasons and the specific activities of their occupants. Throughout history, this strong connection with the landscape was gradually lost.

Today, some of the most daring and innovative architects and designers are finding exciting ways to fuse their designs with the surrounding geography, making them blend in with the landscape. From the meanders of a river mirrored in a nearby hotel to a building that hides between pale rocks and a resort buried in the hills of Italy, none of these fail to impress.
