Atlanta boutique hotel showcases multimillion-dollar renovation

The 110-room Glenn Hotel in Georgia’s state capital has successfully emerged from a major revamp.

Fusing heritage with modern style

Glenn Hotel has undergone a 12-month transformation programme that incorporates both the stylish design of Sims Patrick Studio and the brand strategy and positioning insight of Brand Verve. Hospitality investment, development and management company Legacy Ventures – the original developer, and current manager, of the hotel – led the update of all public spaces and guestrooms at this elegant Autograph Collection property, emphasising its warm hospitality through Southern spirit and style.

“The Glenn has a truly bespoke and intricate design – every detail throughout the design was curated with the guest’s experience and sense of place in mind,” said Legacy Ventures director of design and construction Akash Gaur. “Guests will feel and experience familial Southern hospitality, not want to leave and be eager to return.”

Back in 2006, Legacy Ventures’ adaptive reuse of the property ensured the preservation of original architectural elements in the 1923-built former office block, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The hotel, which is owned by private-equity firm Tripoli Management, is located close to Atlanta’s State Farm Arena, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Georgia World Congress Center and Centennial Olympic Park.

Southern-inspired design

Each element of the redesign supports the hotel’s new branding as the Pride of Atlanta. Guests are greeted with the phrase ‘there lies a lion in every Southern heart’ before settling into living and dining areas incorporating custom millwork and the colours of the city’s forested landscape.

From artwork to door knockers, a lion motif recurs throughout the scheme in a nod to the 39 carved stone lion heads present on the building’s historic cornice. Glenn Hotel also recognises the creative community, with meeting rooms named after notable female Southern authors whose works feature on the hotel’s bookshelves.

Meanwhile, the property’s celebrated Southern restaurant Glenn’s Kitchen has benefitted from a complete redesign, resulting in interiors recalling the white-washed brick, shiplap, angled shutters and caned accents of a Southern porch. And rooftop venue SkyLounge has been entirely reimagined as a comfortable veranda, with an upgraded removable enclosure ensuring guests can enjoy the space in all weathers.
