Renovation work is taking longer than planned for IHG’s 283-key hotel in Doha, which now targets a year-end debut with interiors by Studio Carter

Kimpton Al Rowda Doha now has a new opening date. We first wrote about this project earlier this year in February, when IHG Hotels & Resorts announced the signing of the 283-key hotel and said it was set to open in mid-2026. However, the renovation needed more time than the team planned, and the hotel is now scheduled to welcome guests at the end of 2026. The project has moved forward since the announcement, and the plans for the hotel itself have not changed.

What Changed?

The new date comes down to the renovation work, which is taking longer than expected. Schedule changes are common in hotel projects, especially when an existing building is being converted. Want to read more about why hotels sometimes get delayed or change their timelines? We’ve written about that, too. For Kimpton Al Rowda Doha, the revised date adds several months to the original target. The scope of the hotel has not changed.

Studio Carter is the interior designer for the project. The hotel will have guest rooms, suites, and apartments, along with five dining and lounge venues. A rooftop bar with panoramic city views will sit at the top of the building. Pets are welcome, which follows the Kimpton tradition.

The Hotel and Its Location

Kimpton Al Rowda Doha is located in a downtown area of the Qatari capital. It is just steps from major commercial hubs, cultural landmarks, and key attractions. IHG describes the property as a social hub meant for both travelers and locals. The brand’s playful design, inventive dining, and warm service are expected to shape that experience.

Haitham Mattar, Managing Director of IHG Hotels & Resorts for India, Middle East, and Africa, said the project will reimagine a “well-located property into a beacon of boutique luxury.” Sheikh Khalid Bin Jassim Al Thani, who partnered with IHG on the hotel, said the deal fits his vision for the landmark property. Doha draws international visitors with the Museum of Islamic Art and the National Museum of Qatar. The city also hosts major events and serves as an aviation hub.

The Doha hotel is part of IHG’s luxury and lifestyle growth in the Middle East. IHG Hotels & Resorts is a global hospitality company with a purpose to provide True Hospitality for Good. It has a family of 21 hotel brands and IHG One Rewards, one of the world’s largest hotel loyalty programs, with more than 160 million members. The company has more than one million rooms across 7,100 hotels in over 100 countries. Its development pipeline includes a further 2,400 properties.

Please note: Information regarding project details—including but not limited to opening dates, room counts, and branding—for hotels under development can change as projects progress. The information in this article reflects the most accurate details available at the time of writing and may not be updated afterward.
