Earning our latest Project of the Week accolade is a forthcoming luxurious Rosewood Hotels & Resorts Mexican retreat overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

Rosewood Resort & Spa Mandarina is being developed by RLH Properties, which tapped up Rosewood to manage the resort as the brand’s fourth property in Mexico.

Prehistoric inspiration

Located on the country’s west coast in the exotic Nayarit region, the hotel will offer 130 guestrooms, suites and villas with panoramic views across the mountains, beach and ocean. The residential-style resort will also feature a collection of private residences.

The beachfront property will draw inspiration from the local, prehistoric Huichole and Cora cultures, combining modern luxury and comfort with the riches of its setting. The site is billed as offering residents and guests an immersive, highly individualised experience.

Dining and recreation

Guests will be able to choose from three bars and restaurants including a speciality restaurant and sunset bar as well as more informal options, such as a pool grill and beach bar.

The Riviera Nayarit resort will house three pools, a fitness centre and a signature Asaya spa with 10 treatment rooms in addition to event space which will include a 3,000 sq-ft ballroom.

Schedule slippage

The Rosewood Mandarina development was first announced in 2016. At the time, Rosewood CEO Sonia Cheng said: “Rosewood is excited to expand our brand further into Mexico, a leading destination for luxury travellers. With all the natural beauty and adventure that Riviera Nayarit has to offer, Mandarina will effortlessly embody the brand’s A Sense of Place philosophy.”

Originally, the hotel was meant to open in 2019, but several schedule readjustments have seen that pushed back to 2024. It looks like the project could be on track to make the latest date though, as the real estate firm involved, LPR Luxury, has now indicated that reservations for the resort’s residential villas will soon be released.
