Construction work is underway on a new Hyatt Place-branded property – the result of a collaboration between Hyatt Hotels Corporation, Pellicano and Perri Projects – in Brisbane.

Expected to open early 2025, this highly anticipated hotel forms part of the AU$700 million (US$500 million) South City Square mixed-use development.

A new leisure hotspot

Set within this development in the Woolloongabba suburb, the Hyatt Place Brisbane South City Square project really began to take shape in the first half of 2019 when Hyatt Hotels Corporation signed an agreement with South City Square’s joint-venture development partners, Pellicano and Perri Projects. Construction work on the ambitious hotel scheme began in 2020.

On opening, Hyatt Place Brisbane South City Square is expected to house 170 guestrooms, along with enticing amenities including a rooftop bar and pool, café, lobby lounge, fitness centre and 24-hour grab-and-go food market.

The Woolloongabba area of Brisbane is widely considered a hotspot for sport, tourism, entertainment, medicine and commerce, making it the ideal base for both business and leisure travellers. Besides the Hyatt Place hotel, it’s envisaged that South City Square will feature 850 residential apartments, as well as offices, a cinema, a supermarket, boutiques, cafés, restaurants, a childcare centre and wellness facilities.

Brisbane’s burgeoning tourism

Before the pandemic, Brisbane’s visitor economy was growing strongly. Hyatt Place Brisbane South City Square is one of several new four- and five-star hotels lined up to open across the city in the coming years.

This new Hyatt Place hotel will benefit from easy access to the Cross River Rail Woolloongabba underground station and its integrated bus hub, making Brisbane’s CBD just a three-minute train ride away. The property, which is being designed by a team that includes DBI Design and Woods Bagot, is expected to reach completion in the first quarter of 2025.
