A first for Northern England
The project will be the brand’s first in Northern England and has an opening planned for early 2026.
Located in the historic town of York, room2 York will offer 116 guest rooms, a meeting space, a gym, a laundry room, and Winnie’s cafe and bar, specialising in home-cooked and locally sourced food.
Room2 York is designed to meet operational and embodied net-zero carbon standards, following the UK Green Building Council’s (UKGBC) framework.
Energy-efficient design
The building will feature energy-efficient elements like roof solar panels, wastewater heat recovery showers, and CO2 sensor-controlled ventilation. It aims to achieve WELL Platinum certification for health and wellbeing.
The hotel’s design is inspired by York’s medieval architecture, with reclaimed timber flooring, recycled textiles, and restored joinery.
Guestrooms will include bold colours, artistic wallpapers, and lighting influenced by York Cathedral’s Five Sisters window. Local artists and makers will contribute to the project.
Robert Godwin, CEO of Lamington Group said room2 York would be a “fantastic development” despite challenging economic conditions.
“In line with our One Living Planet strategy, we are proud to continue creating long-term environmental and social value for our partners, guests, and community,” he added.
