The group signed a franchise agreement with Odyssey Hotel Group for Alte Post Vignette Collection in Reit im Winkl, a Bavarian village.
Sustainable luxury
Set to open in 2026, the hotel will be developed by DAIxKo Group in a joint venture between Derichs and Konertz project development and Aixact real estate, with a lease brokered by Hotel Affairs Consulting GmbH.
The luxury hotel will be designed by architects Blocher Partners of Stuttgart and will feature 150 bedrooms, two restaurants, including one for fine dining, plus a bar, underground parking and a wellness area with fitness studios, saunas and a swimming pool. Sustainability will be at the heart of the property’s design.
Exciting development
Rick van Erp, founder and CEO, Odyssey Hotel Group, said: “We are delighted to be working with IHG Hotels & Resorts on this exciting brand debut for Vignette Collection in Germany. We are looking forward to developing this hotel so it remains sustainable for years to come and provides a new luxury hotel stay experience for visitors coming to this part of Germany. IHG is certainly the right partner with whom to achieve our objectives.”
Willemijn Geels, vice president of development for Europe, at IHG Hotels and Resorts, added: “We are thrilled to introduce the Vignette Collection to the German market. The global success of the brand in its first year, with 14 hotels signed or opened, speaks volumes to its emphasis on delivering one-of-a-kind stays and memorable moments alongside a commitment to more responsible travel. Our growth in Germany has been especially strong in recent years and adding Vignette Collection to the pipeline is an exciting development in our luxury growth strategy.”
European Vignettes
Vignette Collection is IHG’s first collection brand and is a family of one-of-a-kind properties in sought-after urban and resort locations. The collection weaves responsibility, community and locality together within distinct hotels.
Across Europe the Vignette Collection will be appearing in two further cities in Q3 2023. In Lisbon, Portugal, Convento de S. Domingos Hotel – Vignette Collection will result from an extensive redevelopment of the 121-key Convent Square Hotel. Plus Verno House Budapest, opened in 2022 in the Hungarian capital as a luxury lifestyle hotel under the Botaniq collection, a lifestyle umbrella brand of BDPST Group, will re-emerge as Verno House Budapest, Vignette Collection after a franchise agreement signed with IHG for the 50-room property.
Luxury expansion
Within Germany itself, IHG’s luxury presence has continued to grow in recent years with four of its luxury brands – InterContinental, Regent, Kimpton and now Vignette Collection – now represented with open or signed hotels in the market.
As at 30 September 2022, the group had 91 hotels open in Germany, with a further 26 in the pipeline, across brands including Regent Hotels and Resorts, InterContinental Hotels and Resorts, Hotel Indigo, Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts, voco hotels, Holiday Inn Hotels and Resorts and Holiday Inn Express.
German Kimpton debut
IHG will further bolster its luxury offering by bringing the global boutique luxury hotel brand Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants to Germany in 2025 with the opening of Kimpton Frankfurt. Part of one of Europe’s largest inner-city developments, the Kimpton is a newbuild hotel behind a listed and conserved façade in Frankfurt’s city centre. The luxury boutique hotel will feature 155 rooms, two large meeting rooms and an onsite gym. In addition to the hotel’s signature restaurant, there are also plans for a skybar and restaurant on the roof terrace with city views. The classic 1950s lobby will serve as the main entrance to the hotel.
Kimpton Frankfurt will be part of the Frankfurt development project, FOUR Frankfurt, which is led by developer Groß and Partner. FOUR Frankfurt is high-rise in the middle of the central banking district which features office, residential and retail space in a city centre location. The mixed-use project, which highlights innovative and sustainable design by UNStudio architects, will be home to 5,000 people for both business and residential purposes.
