In the Constance hotel, the self-supporting steel stairs featuring noble wooden steps and white lacquered balustrade stringers captivate with their sophisticated interplay of geometry, material and light.

As a central element, the design stairs with their elliptical shape connect the six storeys of the elegant hotel situated at the shore of Lake Constance. Despite the considerable amount of steel used for this outstanding construction, it convinces with a light and harmonious appearance and shows most impressive staircase architecture.

The staircase experts of MetallArt managed the technical challenges to realise this steel sculpture with their excellent knowledge and vast experience.

Flat-steel balustrade stringers for spiral stairs

An important feature for the sculptural look of the self-supporting stairs is the rounded parapet-high stringers made of flat steel with a thickness of approximately 12 mm.

The step and landing structures were welded in between the stringers and the effective flight width extends up to 1,270 mm. Made of a 5 mm-thick steel sheet, the tread structure in folded design completes the construction. The steel sheets for the tread steps were bent at the front and welded at the rear.

Self-supporting design with curved underside steel soffit

To receive the homogeneous appearance, the exclusive stairs were completed with a smooth underside soffit made of steel sheet. Besides its visual effect, this design element makes a decisive contribution to the structural support of the construction.

It was manufactured of flat steel and rolled in the shape of the flight run of the stairs. During the assembly, these steel sheets were welded absolutely flush to the surface at the bottom edge of the steel stringers.

Visual delight with harmonious combination of steel and wood

With its appealing mix of materials, the impressive staircase fits perfectly into the elegant ambiance of the hotel.

The balustrade steel stringers as well as the smooth soffit lining were finished with a high-quality white lacquering. A fine wooden cover for the steps presents a successful contrast in material and colour and completes the harmonious overall design of the stairs.
