A relaxed lifestyle property celebrating Southern Californian culture and design, Proper Hospitality’s Hotel June is the focus for our latest TOPHOTELDESIGN exclusive.
Proper Hospitality is behind this June 2020-opened property, which was the first lifestyle hotel to open between Santa Monica and Los Angeles International Airport in over a decade.
A reflection of the area
A member of Design Hotels, the elegant Hotel June is the result of a collaboration between a stellar team that includes Kollin Altomare Architects – Long Beach (architecture) and Studio Collective (interior design). Launched in June 2020, it represented the first completed project for Proper Hospitality’s new Hotel June brand.
The hotel, which is designed to celebrate Southern California, is inspired by the soul and spirit of the Sunshine State. Its distinctive name is meant to reflect a summer sensibility and new beginnings.
Created as an affordable lifestyle hotel, the property delivers a stylish and uplifting accommodation option for frequent travellers, as well as a gathering spot for locals. The 250-room hotel combines local inspiration and beach culture with the classic mid-century architecture of the historic building, originally designed by Welton Becket.
Meanwhile, Studio Collective curated the interiors to bring the relaxed and bright spirit of the West Coast to life with light woods, native fabrics, handmade tiles and local art.
Created for guests and locals
Designed as a haven for guests, the hotel’s rooms offer coastal and city views, and are fitted with custom furnishings. Amenities within range from Italian Fili D’oro linens to Aesop bath products.
The hotel’s dining and drinking venues have been created in partnership with Steve Livigni of Happy To Serve You Hospitality Group.
A two-level outdoor restaurant and bar, Caravan Swim Club, celebrates Californian and Baja Californian influences and ingredients through a variety of vibrant dishes, alongside cocktails focusing on agave spirits. Moreover, guests and locals alike can dine at Scenic Route, which draws inspiration from the route between Northern Baja and Santa Barbara, showcasing California’s diverse cultures and traditions.
These restaurants are complemented by the Counter Culture beverage programme, spanning coffee, cocktails, beer, wine and spirits from mostly Californian producers.
On top of this, Hotel June endeavours to engage guests and locals in interactive and inclusive cultural programming at Scenic Route and on the exterior pool deck.
