Compact luxury bathroom designed by 2LG Studio
How 2LG Studio created an indulgent bathroom in a tiny space.
To get a true sense of an interior designer, look at the work they do in their own home. Designers Jordan Cluroe and Russell Whitehead of 2LG Studio in London are becoming familiar faces in the British media. Earlier this year they published their first book ‘Making Living Lovely: Free Your Home with Creative Design’, sharing their liberated approach to interiors.
As well as being successful business partners, Cluroe and Whitehead are a real-life couple, so when it came to designing their own bathroom they had to balance two different sets of personal and practical needs. As Cluroe explains, “We had very different opinions. I like to take a bath, Russell likes to a take a shower. But it’s not a massive space.”
At around 2.1m x 1.4m, the conventional wisdom would be a full wet-room with no bath, or the compromise of a shower over a bath. Whitehead firmly rejected both options: “We wanted to see if we could design something which gave me the full walk-in shower experience and gave Jordan a deep bathing experience. The solution was to put the shower in the centre of the space and tank the whole room. The bath sits wall-to-wall under the window.”
From the pictures, the use of pink tiles across floor and walls is perhaps the most striking element of the design – in itself a clever way of creating the illusion of space. The gently curving Victoria + Albert Amiata bath and its matching basin contrast with the linear geometry of the tiles, and feel luxuriously indulgent. But the layout of the bathroom is also ingenious, giving Whitehead his spacious shower and Cluroe his deep and relaxing bath. It is a fine example of two talented designers let off the leash.
