Wyndham strengthens footprint in the Garden City

Wyndham Hotels & Resorts has opened its sophomore property in Christchurch, a 96-room scheme created in partnership with Marsden Group and Clearwater Construction.

The Wyndham Garden brand is making its mark in New Zealand’s second largest city.

Wyndham Garden debuts in the Garden City

Christchurch, on New Zealand’s South Island, is affectionately known as the Garden City by locals because of its abundant greenery. Perhaps it’s no surprise then that Wyndham Hotels & Resorts has decided to bring the popular Wyndham Garden brand here.

Occupying a prime position in the heart of the city, the newly opened Wyndham Garden Christchurch Kilmore Street is within comfortable walking distance of a raft of restaurants and cafés, as well as Christchurch Convention Centre. The hotel, which was developed by Clearwater Construction and operates under a franchise agreement with Wyndham, is managed by Marsden Group.

Matt Holmes, head of development for South East Asia and Pacific Rim at Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, said: “We are delighted to collaborate closely with the Marsden Group to launch our Wyndham Garden brand in Christchurch. Christchurch is a vibrant city that is continuing to evolve with a focus on urban regeneration, which is attracting an increasing number of domestic visitors – making it an ideal location for our second hotel in the city, and our 16th hotel in New Zealand.

“The Wyndham Garden Christchurch Kilmore Street enjoys an exceptional location that is right in the heart of the city, enabling guests to discover all that Christchurch is renowned for. We look forward to working with Marsden to drive value to our portfolio of hotels in New Zealand, and in creating an exceptional experience for our guests as they start to travel again.”

A broad appeal

The Wyndham Garden brand is often found in key business, suburban and airport locations, making it ideal for both corporate and leisure travellers. Its new Christchurch outpost boasts 96 rooms, including 60 apartment-style options complete with kitchens, washing machines, clothes dryers and interconnecting spaces.

Michael Osborne, Marsden Group director, said: “It is our privilege to continue our relationship with such a well-established and respected global hotel company like Wyndham Hotels & Resorts. Wyndham Garden Christchurch Kilmore Street is our ninth hotel in our management portfolio in collaboration with Wyndham – and we are looking forward to extending a warm welcome to domestic and, soon, international guests to experience the creative and vibrant culture that the city of Christchurch is renowned for.

“Our ongoing partnership with Wyndham Hotels & Resorts will continue to drive the success of our hotels as tourism recovers and we hope to roll out more hotels across New Zealand in the coming years.”
