Hilton Worldwide has announced that two of its most prestigious brands, Waldorf Astoria and Canopy by Hilton, will launch properties in the Seychelles over the coming years.

Currently slated to make their debuts in 2023, Waldorf Astoria Platte Island and Canopy by Hilton Mahé will build further on the group’s significant presence in the archipelago. We find out what to expect from the new arrivals.

Hilton grows its footprint in the Seychelles

Hospitality giant Hilton Worldwide has signed management agreements to bring luxury brand Waldorf Astoria and lifestyle brand Conrad by Hilton to the Seychelles, joining its impressive portfolio of properties on the archipelago that will soon include the early-2021-opening Mango House Seychelles, LXR Hotels & Resorts.

“The Seychelles remains unquestionably one of the world’s most desirable destinations for the discerning traveller,” said Carlos Khneisser, vice president of development in the Middle East and Africa for Hilton. “We are proud of the role our teams have played in the sustainable development of the Seychelles, and these new additions, coupled with Mango House Seychelles, LXR Hotels & Resorts, will give our guests an unprecedented range of world-class experiential options to choose from when planning what is sure to be an unforgettable visit.”

Two new island experiences

Waldorf Astoria Platte Island will be a luxurious resort featuring 59 oceanfront villas with private pools, six restaurants and bars, a spa, an outdoor observatory, tennis courts, a kids club and a marine conservation discovery centre. All of this will be located within Platte Island, which lies just over 130km south of Mahé and has a small airstrip to facilitate access from Mahé’s main airport. Many of the new buildings on the island, which has its own palm forest and is surrounded by a lagoon and coral reef, will incorporate solar-powered roofs.

Meanwhile, Canopy by Hilton Mahé will be located on Mahé island’s Anse à la Mouche beach, a stretch of coastline celebrated for its calm and shallow waters. The area is also benefiting from significant investment, with upcoming facilities set to include a boutique shopping village. The resort itself will house 120 guest rooms, with decor taking inspiration from its location, and ample space for meetings and events.

Hilton currently operates six brands in Africa and the Indian Ocean, and the group recently reached the milestone of having 100 hotels operating or in the pipeline across this region.
