W Melbourne starts welcoming guests

Brought to life by architecture and interior design firm Hachem, W Melbourne is a new luxury lifestyle hotel with a fun design aesthetic.
Melbourne is known for its buzzing cultural, fashion and food scenes, making it the perfect location for what is only W Hotels’ second Australian site after Brisbane. We find out more about how W Melbourne blends seamlessly into one of the city’s most happening neighbourhoods.
A celebration of Melbourne
Situated at 408 Flinders Lane in the heart of the city’s eclectic dining and fashion district, W Melbourne invites guests to explore its many layers and unique spaces.
Australian architecture and interior design firm Hachem has drawn on the community’s iconic laneway culture and its famous graffiti street art, as well as modern design elements and local materials, to embody W’s characteristically playful yet edgy style. Throughout the property, works by local artists are displayed or built into the design – a clever approach that helps the brand create its signature sense of place.
“Melbourne is the perfect locale for the playfully luxe spirit of the W brand and we could not be more excited to unveil this highly anticipated hotel to the world,” said Jennie Toh, vice president of brand marketing and brand management, Asia Pacific, Marriott International. “From its unique, locally inspired design to its eclectic line-up of restaurants and bars, W Melbourne is destined to redefine the luxury hotel scene here and become a must-go destination for travellers and local scene-stealers alike.”
Australia’s latest lifestyle destination
W Melbourne boasts 294 luxurious rooms and 29 spacious suites. Interestingly, its Wonderful, Fabulous and Mega room categories are inspired by the nearby newspaper kiosks on the street, which date back to the 1960s. And the 175 sq m Extreme Wow Suite on level 15 features a generous balcony, providing exceptional views of the Yarra River below.
Of course, no W hotel is complete without a varied F&B offering. At this particular property, guests can choose between the all-day dining restaurant Lollo, headed up by celebrity chef Adam D’Sylva; Japanese venue WARABI; Culprit, incorporating the best elements of Melbourne cafe culture into a hip bar and dining concept; and cocktail bar Curious, which offers eye-catching cocktails in a memorable cocoon-inspired space.
W Melbourne also offers 830 sq m of meeting and event facilities, decked out with the very latest audiovisual equipment. And finally, guests can kick back and relax by soaking up the calming ambience at the gold-roofed indoor pool, or dance to the latest beats at the poolside bar.
