IHG’s upscale brand is celebrating the opening of its inaugural property in the region with the arrival of the stunning Voco The Bank Johannesburg Rosebank.

Voco has made its long-awaited debut in the African market, courtesy of this stellar offering in Johannesburg.

A unique architectural jewel

Occupying six floors of The Bank, a mixed-use building in the hip district of Rosebank, Voco’s latest outpost is the result of a partnership between IHG and Valor. A self-proclaimed ‘upscale sanctuary’, Voco The Bank Johannesburg Rosebank shares its home with tenants like Rand Merchant Investments, Bespoken Man Barbers and Tailor Me.

Haitham Mattar, managing director for India, Middle East and Africa at IHG, said: “As part of our growth strategy in Africa, we have partnered with Valor to expand our footprint on the continent. Valor has been our long-term partner in the United States and the United Kingdom, and we are delighted to open our first Voco hotel in Johannesburg, South Africa.

“Voco The Bank Johannesburg Rosebank is a best-in-class property and a great entry to market for IHG. Voco The Bank is a distinct hotel with an individual character in the buzzing walk-work-play district of Rosebank and will be a great addition to the destination. This new opening in the trendy hub of Rosebank adds to the momentum we are building in the IMEA region with six Voco hotels openings in key cities.”

Delivering the buzz of the Voco brand

One of the hotel’s key focuses is on coworking, and corporate guests will be able to do plenty of business at Workshop17, a remote working space on the first floor. All-day dining can be enjoyed on the ground floor at the Proud Mary eatery, meanwhile, which also offers room service.

The hotel features 131 rooms that have all been tastefully transformed to reflect Voco’s ‘come on in’ ethos. And the brand’s upscale approach can be felt in the distinctive touches found throughout the property, from the linen made from 100% recycled materials to the double-height spaces and state-of-the-art gym.

Sustainability is a key consideration too, which is demonstrated by the fact that the building’s powered mostly by renewable energy.

Jessica Redinger, general manager of Voco The Bank Johannesburg Rosebank, said: “We know that nowadays guests like to feel that they are making a difference. We’ve gone out of our way to minimise the impact of our hotel on the environment, using best-practice sustainable guidelines wherever we can.”
