Voco enters the Netherlands with 204-key opening

Dutch design and Voco’s signature style combine to great effect in this newly launched hotel in The Hague, located within an eye-catching former bank building in the Royal Quarter.
IHG‘s premium collection brand Voco has made its mark in The Hague, the royal and administrative capital of the Netherlands.
Transforming a heritage site
Located in a historic building dating back to 1923, Voco The Hague is close to the city’s museums, shops and heritage sites, as well as the embassy quarter and Peace Palace. Central Station is only a ten-minute tram ride away, moreover, and the coast can be reached in 15 minutes.
Before opening as a Voco property, the Royal Quarter building underwent a complete overhaul, converting from a bank into a 204-room hotel with accommodation spread across seven floors.
“This iconic building on the Kneuterdijk has been transformed to be the first Voco hotel in the Netherlands, nodding to the brand’s diverse portfolio of hotels located in new and heritage buildings,” said general manager Inge van Weert. “Voco means to invite or call together, originating from Latin. This is exactly what we hope guests will do at Voco The Hague.
“From their first cup of coffee in the morning in our butterfly garden, to locals coming for lunch in restaurant Botanica, or ending their day with a cocktail in gastrobar Ultramarijn, we hope to bring people together to enjoy a slice of Voco life.”
A nature-inspired social hub
On entering, guests are met with a spacious greenery-filled atrium, setting the tone for the rest of the hotel, which is inspired by nature. A butterfly installation named ‘born of flowers’ decorates the lobby with thousands of metal butterflies forming flying flowers, which then leads onto a garden terrace designed by an expert ecologist.
Every guest is greeted with a traditional Dutch fondant, known as borstplaat, before being led up to rooms that are notable for pairing a metropolitan design with warmth and a playful touch. Signature in-room amenities here include high-quality bedding made from 100% recycled material and the eco-friendly bathroom range of plant-based organic skincare company Antipodes.
During their stay, guests can dine at Botanica Kitchen Bar & Lounge, offering an 80% vegetable-based menu featuring local ingredients, or Ultramarijn Wonderbar, serving Java coffee, pastries, all-day breakfast dishes, comfort food and creative cocktails. On top of this, the property boasts a fully equipped gym, while both hotel and non-hotel guests are encouraged to explore the ‘Play Work’ area of the lobby.
