The lifestyle-oriented Virgin Hotels brand is to open and operate a Glaswegian property with help from a team that includes 21st Architecture, Silk Property Group, Siggis Capital and RM Funds.

The second Scottish hotel to be signed by the brand, Virgin Hotels Glasgow is expected to make its debut in 2022. Guests can expect multiple drinking and dining outlets and panoramic river views.

A riverside lifestyle hub

Located on Clyde Street in the centre of Glasgow, this forthcoming Virgin Hotels property will provide an exciting place to stay in the heart of the city’s shopping area, overlooking the River Clyde.

“Glasgow is a dynamic city with a rich history that is extra special to me as my wife Joan is a proud Glaswegian,” said Sir Richard Branson, founder of the Virgin Group. “Since launching our first property in 2015, Virgin Hotels has established a beloved brand, always ensuring that our offerings embrace and showcase the local community culture for all travellers to enjoy; and this property will surely do the same.”

“We are thrilled to announce this exciting development in the vibrant city of Glasgow,” added James Bermingham, CEO of Virgin Hotels. “Glasgow features distinctive art, music, shopping and much more, making it the perfect destination for our newest hotel. Virgin Hotels Glasgow will possess all of the defining characteristics of our brand, including innovative Chamber (room) design, forward-thinking technology, creative food and beverage offerings and unforgettable entertainment.”

Embodying the Virgin Hotels brand identity

Altogether, the hotel will house 242 Chambers and Grand Chamber Suites, along with event space and a number of F&B outlets. The brand’s signature Commons Club, which comprises a restaurant, bar and modern social club, will be joined by the Funny Library Coffee Shop, encompassing communal workspace and a collection of whimsical books and games. The hotel will also adopt the brand’s ‘No Nickel and Diming’ policy, ensuring free wifi, zero amenity fees and street-priced minibars.

For the creation of this hotel, Virgin Hotels is working in partnership with owner and developer Silk Property Group, asset manager Siggis Capital, architect 21st Architecture and financial partner RM Funds. Each partner can draw on extensive hotel industry experience.

“Silk Property Group is delighted to have partnered with Virgin Hotels, an amazing global brand,” said Richard Diamond, co-founder of Silk Property Group. “We fully expect the hotel to become a beacon of activity and showcase Virgin’s ability to bring something different and much-needed to Glasgow. With numerous investments in Glasgow, we are so thrilled to bring another incredible project to this energetic city.”

Virgin Hotels’ growing portfolio includes Virgin Hotels Chicago, Virgin Hotels Dallas and Virgin Hotels Nashville, along with the recently opened Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. Virgin Hotels New Orleans and Virgin Hotels New York City are scheduled to open this year, meanwhile, and Virgin Hotels Edinburgh and Miami are already being lined up for 2022 and beyond.
