The tourism industry in Butler County, Ohio in the United States is not the first market one thinks of when considering popular tourism destinations.
Now, however, that area is undergoing a bit of a tourism boom, one that has in turn begun to fuel additional hotel development. In fact, local media is even reporting that a new giant draw is on the way in the form of the proposed Spooky Nook sports and convention complex to be located in Hamilton, Ohio, and once it is complete, it may spark even more tourism for the area, thereby raising the demand for even more hotel properties.
Indeed, Butler County is perhaps an unlikely place for a tourism boom. Located in Western Ohio, Butler County is home to 368,130. The largest city there is Hamilton, Ohio, which is hardly on most maps. Prominence, however, is irrelevant when it comes to hospitality expansion. The only thing that really truly matters there is tourism, and local news outlets report that 8,000 to 10,000 visitors are expected an given weekend to the forthcoming sports and convention complex, which will be located on the banks of the county’s Great Miami River.
Local officials have also said that Hamilton County Ohio currently has 300 hotel rooms. That means that the aforementioned six hotels are going to be vital once the new complex opens, one of which is almost complete, that being Aloft Hotel, which is to be located in West Chester Township. Along with the people coming for hotel rooms, there will also be increased demand for more food options, which will help lead to a more robust area that encourages visitor.
In addition, the Spooky Nook complex itself is to incorporate hotel rooms, with local officials estimating that it has the potential to usher in 40,000 hotel room nights a year to the area. Local media reports that tourism had a $1.2 billion impacts on the Ohio county last year, with visitors effecting every facet of the region, including everything from transportation hubs like airports to local McDonald’s franchises. Currently, reports show that 14,000 people are employed in tourism, a number that will, of course, likely increase with the advent of the new hotels opening within the area.
