The city of love welcomes 30 new hotels
According to the TOPHOTELCONSTRUCTION database, high-end and upscale hotels are sweeping the board in Paris.
The French capital gears up for a busy few years, according to figures from the TOPHOTELPROJECTS database. We check out the top brands and projects that are destined for Paris, as well as running through some of the most important numbers for the city’s hospitality industry.
High-end hotels in Paris
Paris has always been known as one of the most sophisticated destinations in the world, so it is perhaps no surprise that, as 2019 comes to a close, the majority of the hotels in the French capital’s pipeline are at the upper end of the hospitality sector.
Out of the proposed 30 properties that are going to open in the city in the coming years, 12 will be 4-star hotels and 17 will be 5-star, with only one mid-range 3-star hotel to open in the near future. There is a fairly even spread among a diverse array of brands that cover every segment of the hotel industry.
Upscale lifestyle brand Mama Shelter will have two new properties in Paris, with luxury lifestyle brand Pestana Hotels boasting one new property. They are followed by reliable international brands such as Novotel, InterContinental Hotels Group and Marriott, each of which will open one hotel in Paris in the coming years. 2020 will be a big year for openings in the city, with 10 properties welcoming guests over the course of the next 12 months. Currently, 11 properties are under construction, nine are in the planning stages, five are in the pre-opening phase and five are in the pre-planning stage.
InterContinental Paris Le Grand
The largest hotel project currently underway in Paris is the extensive renovation and refurbishment of the Le Grand Hotel by InterContinental to become Paris Le Grand once works are completed in the first quarter of 2021. This 470-key property is located in a typically Parisian building, rich with history and of notable architectural heritage. Located in the heart of Paris, the hotel was inaugurated under Napoleon III and the suites will be lovingly restored in the Second Empire style to give guests their very own experience of French history.
This luxurious new build 5-star hotel will overlook the River Seine. The impressive 160-key property is due to open in the first quarter of 2021, and will appeal to both business and leisure travelers alike. Guests visiting the hotel for work can avail of the extensive meeting and conference facilities available in the hotel, and can entertain clients at one of the hotels’ fine dining options.
This dazzling feat of architecture will be located close to the 15th arrondissement, and will comprise of a hotel between the 12th and 17th floors. The building will take the form of a transparent triangle, which will no doubt come to define the skyline in time. The hotel housed within the triangular tower will be a 4-star property boasting 120 rooms and due to open in the first quarter of 2024.
This 5-star luxury new build hotel will form part of the newly developed Metz neighbourhood. Featuring designs and concepts by some of France’s most well regarded creatives, including Phillippe Starck, the hotel will be located on the site of the former freight station and will boast 199 rooms and suites.
