Brand overview: Radisson Blu to grow portfolio by over 16,000 rooms [Construction Report]

Within the next few years, the Radisson Blu brand will add over 70 hotels and 16,000 new rooms to its portfolio.

In the coming years, Radisson Blu is planning 73 hotel openings which will add 16,399 rooms to the brand’s global portfolio.

We find out where these hotels will launch, and which properties are worth keeping tabs on.

Steady growth lies ahead

For 2020 Radisson Blu is planning 27 openings which will bring a total of 5,123 rooms. In 2021, 17 launches with 4,082 rooms are planned while another 14 hotels are slated to open in 2022, adding another 2,799 rooms to the brand’s portfolio.

Currently, 2023 only has 2 new properties on the books but more will likely be added in the meantime. For 2024 and beyond 13 hotels are already signed off.

Top regional growth markets for Radisson Blu

Europe is the brand’s strongest growth market with 21 properties and 3,929 new rooms planned to go live soon.

Radisson Blu is also going strong in Africa with a pipeline of 20 hotels set to bring 4,288 new rooms to the continent.

In the APAC region, 13 hotels will add 3,318 rooms while the Middle East will see 12 new properties open with a total of 3,597 rooms.

North America trails behind with 7 openings and 1,267 rooms.

Radisson Blu’s top national growth markets

Saudi Arabia will see the largest number of openings with 7 hotels due to bring the Kingdom 2,383 new rooms.

China follows in second place with 4 projects and 1,206 rooms. Egypt, India and Romania will see 3 projects each and 1,088, 541 and 417 rooms respectively.

Noteworthy projects in Radisson Blu’s pipeline

The Radisson Blu Al Hidaya is the largest property currently in the brand’s pipeline, however, the 1,251-room hotel is currently on hold. Once completed, it will be part of the Al Hidaya Complex, a ten-tower development which already features 4,500 rooms.

By late 2020, the 326-room Radisson Blu Anaheim will welcome guests only a half-mile from Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park. The new-build hotel will be the tallest hotel in Anaheim and offer a plethora of amenities including a ground-level family activity space, rooftop pool and bar, fitness centre and a restaurant.

The Radisson Blu Hotel Geneva will bring 250 stylish new rooms to the city in Q3 2022. It will be strategically located between the city centre and the airport. This business and conference hotel will offer modern rooms and suites which embrace the brand’s dynamic new “BluPrint” interior design scheme which combines typical design classics with made-to-measure furnishings and fabrics, adapted to local aspects of architecture and culture. The property also features a 350 sqm ballroom, 8 meeting rooms and 8 boardrooms ideal for today’s business travellers. Other facilities will include an all-day-dining restaurant, a hotel bar and lounge with complimentary offers, as well as a 600 sqm health zone with a fitness centre and spa area.

In South Africa, the Radisson Blu Beach Resort SAL will launch its 240 rooms by late 2020. The five-star beach resort is on Santa Maria, the country’s number one beach location. It will offer two restaurants, four bars including a unique rooftop destination outlet, an 800 sqm spa and several pools and lounges leading onto a spectacular white sandy beach and ocean. The beach resort will also offer the largest conference centre in Cape Verde Islands with more than 1,500 sqm of dedicated meeting and event space.
