We take a look back over the most promising hotel openings of January 2020.
January 2020 is the first month of a new decade, and there were some stellar hotels that opened over the first few weeks of the year. Check out our rundown of the hottest openings of the past month.
Grand Hyatt Hefei
The Grand Hyatt Hefei opened this month with a newly developed mixed-use cultural district in the Chinese city of Hefei. Hefei is the largest and most important city, both economically and culturally, in Anhui province, and has experienced significant growth in recent years, and no doubt the new Hyatt property is designed to accommodate the growing number of visitors to the city and its newly developed cultural hub. The Grand Hyatt Hefei is a 5-star, 350-key hotel that boasts three speciality restaurants, a bar and lounge, a state of the art spa, wellness and fitness centre and ample meeting and conference facilities, with over 2,100 sqft of event space.

Austin Proper Hotel
The Austin Proper Hotel in Austin, Texas, is billed as being “the newest luxury lifestyle hotel in Austin”, and is a new build, 244 key property in the 4-star range. Located in the city’s Second Street District, the hotel is just a stone’s throw away from notable local sights such as Lady Bird Lake and the legendary Austin City Limits music venue. The hotel’s imposing silhouette will no doubt make it an iconic landmark in the city of Austin, with its glazed facade and stepped volumes, while the interiors, spearheaded by designer Kelly Wearstler, will dazzle both leisure and business guests alike. Visitors can take their pick of four F&B venues, a contemporary spa and fitness centre, and 11,500 sqft of meeting and event space. There are also 99 residences on site for private sale.

Courtyard by Marriott Tampere
The Courtyard by Marriott Tampere is a new business hotel located in the Tulli financial and business district in the centre of the Finnish city of Tampere. The hotel is conveniently connected directly to the Tampere Hall Conference and Concert Centre, and as such is an ideal place for business travelers attending events at the venue or working in the wider environs of the hotel to stay. The 229-key property boasts all of the comforts and services you would expect from a Courtyard by Marriott hotel, as well as numerous F&B offerings, and easy access to the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra and Moomin Museum.

Crowne Plaza Dubai Marina
This 280-key property is located on the Dubai Marina right next to the Dubai Marina Mall, with fantastic views out over the ocean beyond. Guests can take exotic walks along the oceanfront via the Marina Promenade and look out towards the famous Palm man-made development. The hotel is a 4-star new build and is ideal for both business and leisure travelers alike. The hotel is in close proximity to the city’s business hubs, including Dubai Media City, Dubai Internet City and Knowledge Village.

Hyatt Regency Hengqin
This eye-catching hotel is located within a futuristic new Novotown development in Zhuhai City, a metropolis in the Greater Bay Area of China’s Guangdong province. Novotown is a highly evolved tourism and entertainment complex in easy reach of Macau and Hong Kong, and the Hyatt Regency Hengqin boasts 490 well appointed rooms that will cater to discerning travelers in the region for business or pleasure. The property has over 3,500 sqft of conference and meeting space, and so is ideal for corporate events.
