Pack your bags and head for Serbia, Mexico & Malawi — the winning destinations on each continent.

We’ve got the list and lowdown for emerging destinations on each continent, according to a poll of over 8,000 avid travellers.

Recently, Travel Lemming presented the 44 best emerging travel destinations in the world, selected by an expert panel of top travel bloggers and influencers, singling out the top 6 picks on each continent.

The next step in the process was to ask readers what they thought about the selections. As a result, 8,000 readers responded.

What follows are three of the winning destinations of the annual Travel Lemming Reader Award.

Belgrade, the capital and largest city of Serbia

Cenote Xkeken, Valladolid, Mexico

Lake Malawi

#1 in Europe – Serbia

Serbia is one of the most underrated travel destinations on the planet, with medieval towns where one can relive centuries of history to modern cities rich with the latest in culture and fashion.

Visitors can check out impressive fortresses down the Danube, explore the gorgeous mountains around Zlatibor, view street art in Belgrade, or have a party in one of the city’s floating nightclubs.

#1 in North America – Valladolid, Mexico

Valladolid is magical, a charming colonial town in the epicentre of Mexico’s super-popular Yucatan peninsula.

The city is often in the shadow of more popular Mexican destinations like Tulum and Cancun, but that’s what makes it such a hidden gem.

The town’s colonial center is adorned with colourful Spanish walls and littered with fashionable shops, tasty street food vendors and an incredible offering of boutique hotels.

Guests can also visit ancient Mayan ruins in the morning, take a dip in an underground cenote in the afternoon, and dance with the locals in the evenings.

#1 in Africa – Malawi

A conservation comeback story, Malawi is arguably Africa’s best-kept secret when it comes to finding incredible safari experiences without crowds.

The Majete Wildlife Reserve is one of a handful of places on the continent where visitors can spot all of the so-called “Big Five” animals.

Guests can also check out the stunning Lake Malawi, with water so clear you can snorkel in it!
