The Standard plans a full renovation of a South Congress property, introducing new design, dining, and guest experiences

A new hotel concept is set to reshape South Congress as The Standard brand prepares to open its first Texas property, The Standard, Austin, in Spring 2027. The project will convert and renovate the existing South Congress Hotel at 1603 South Congress Avenue into a redesigned hospitality destination.

Transformation of a South Congress Landmark

Developed through a collaboration between Hyatt and Timberline Real Estate Partners, the property will be repositioned as a gathering place for both locals and visitors. Plans include a rooftop pool, multiple restaurants and bars, and social wellness experiences integrated throughout the hotel.

Guest rooms will reflect a global design perspective while incorporating local craftsmanship. The property is intended to function as an all-day environment, with spaces that transition from cafés and dining areas to outdoor gathering spots and evening venues.

The South Congress Hotel will close for renovations in Summer 2026 ahead of the relaunch.

Austin-Based Creative Leadership

The project is led by an Austin-based team combining hospitality and design expertise. Amar Lalvani, President and Creative Director of Hyatt’s Lifestyle Group, is working alongside James Moody, Founder of Guerilla Suit; Stan Nix, Managing Partner of Timberline Real Estate Partners; and architect Michael Hsu.

Interior design will be handled by Goodrich Design in collaboration with The Standard brand’s in-house team led by Verena Haller. Hyatt’s Austin-based Bunkhouse brand team will also support the project, contributing local insight and continuity with the surrounding neighborhood.

Positioning Within a Global Portfolio

The Standard, Austin will mark the brand’s first U.S. opening in more than a decade. It joins a global portfolio that includes locations in cities such as London, Ibiza, Bangkok, and Brussels, with additional openings planned in Lisbon and Mexico City later this year.

The development is intended to reflect Austin’s cultural identity while aligning with The Standard brand’s focus on design, dining, nightlife, and social experiences.

Construction will begin following the hotel’s closure in Summer 2026, with the opening scheduled for Spring 2027. Additional project details are expected to be announced ahead of the launch.
