Showcasing the work of Desmone Architects and Stonehill Taylor, Pittsburgh’s new Autograph Collection hotel pays tribute to the Steel City’s heritage and modern spirit.

The new 124-key hotel brings together outstanding design and a sense of community in the Central Business District of the city’s historic downtown area.

Taking inspiration from Pittsburgh’s heritage

Owned by HRI Properties and managed by HRI Lodging, The Industrialist Hotel, Autograph Collection takes over the 18-storey landmark Arrott building. The property was restored and renovated by Desmone Architects, and designed by Stonehill Taylor.

Among the social areas here are a dynamic lobby bar, a lounge with fireplace and a modern American restaurant, The Rebel Room, along with additional facilities such as a 1,000 sq ft fitness centre.

“The revival of this iconic building captures the spirit of Pittsburgh and honours the movers and shakers that built the city,” said Robert Brashler, general manager of the hotel. “The hotel thoughtfully articulates the new industrialists shaping Pittsburgh’s future through engaging interactions and inspired spaces. We look forward to welcoming guests to The Industrialist to enjoy an authentically crafted, local experience.”

The Steel City’s newest social hub

The building that this Autograph Collection hotel is housed in was first constructed in 1902 for James Arrott, known as the ‘Bathtub King of Pittsburgh’ in recognition of his being the first in the region to offer enamelled tiled bathtubs, and was placed on the Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation Historic Landmarks list in 2000.

The building’s historic façade is now complemented by modern interiors, combining themes of smoke and molten metal with preserved details including ornate ceilings, arched windows and marble walls. Two sculptural chandeliers inspired by steel fabrication are the focal point for the entrance space, with guestrooms featuring a monochromatic colour palette, smoke-like abstract artworks and ambient lighting. Three suite options, including the presidential suite, provide views over the city and expansive layouts.

From the lobby lounge and signature restaurant to in-room dining and catering, the culinary offering here is led by executive chef Gavin Hetrick. The Industrialist Lounge is the social heart of the hotel, offering craft cocktails and a Makers Menu of projects including leather-, parchment- and candle-making with local artisans. And the signature restaurant and hearth-inspired bar of The Rebel Room offer menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner, allied to a strong mixology programme.

In addition to these social areas, the hotel has more than 1,200 sq ft of event space, not least the Exchange Room, seating up to 48 people with views over the city. Services here include limousine and car rental options, as well as grocery shopping concierge, dry-cleaning and valet parking.
