It’s been a crazy month with the new realities of Covid19 kicking in, but there are still lots of hotel openings to look forward to in June 2020.

So far, 2020 has been wild for reasons that we could never have predicted a few months ago, but nevertheless there are some stellar hotels due to open this month. Check out our rundown of the hottest openings over the coming four weeks, based on an exclusive analysis of the TOPHOTELCONSTRUCTION database, and read up on the key stats and figures from the ever-changing hotel development landscape.

Hotel development continues despite Covid19

Things are looking up for the global hospitality market in June, with 444 hotel projects expected to open their doors this month. In normal time, June would be halfway through the high season for tourists from major markets like the US and Europe, but these are not normal times. The ongoing coronavirus crisis has stalled the launch of many hotels over the last two months, but as countries begin easing restrictions, various projects are coming back onstream, and several openings that were postponed are now scheduled for this month.

Some 444 separate projects will add 86,275 rooms to global hotel stock, split between 279 first-class and 165 luxury properties. Perhaps unsurprisingly, given their quick and efficient response to Covid19, the Asia Pacific region has the highest number of hotels opening this month, with 139 expecting to welcome guests for the first time in June.

Again perhaps unsurprisingly, but for different reasons, North America comes in next with 137 properties opening this month. The US response to the pandemic has been scattershot to say the least, and some states are choosing to come out of lockdowns surprisingly quickly, which is certainly contributing to the number of openings happening in this region. The US alone will see 116 hotels open in June, more than double that of the 52 openings earmarked for China.

Interestingly, Dubai, New York and London each expect eight openings this month, making them the three busiest cities for hotel development in June. And the most popular brands in June 2020 are those in the midscale segment, with Hampton by Hilton boasting 17 openings, and Courtyard by Marriott and aloft adding eight new properties apiece.

Three of the world’s best new hotels

One of the most noteworthy projects to come online in June 2020 will be Fairmont Abu Dhabi Marina Hotels and Residences, an iconic 5-star newbuild property in the UAE. This 812-key luxury property will be housed in an architecturally impressive creation that evokes classic hotel styles, mixed with traditional and vernacular constructions. Soaring 39 storeys high and spanning two towers connected at the top by a sculptural bridge, the complex will feature a spectacular hotel as well as serviced apartments and private residences.

Meanwhile, the Loews Kansas City Convention Centre is a highly anticipated complex that will occupy an entire city block south of downtown Kansas City. Guests will be welcomed into an 800-key luxury newbuild hotel, which also includes ample meeting, conference and event facilities. Plus, it has the added benefit of acting as a convenient base for anyone in town to attend an event at the Kansas City Convention Center’s Grand Ballroom, just across the road.

Not to be outdone, Paramount Tower Hotel and Residences Dubai is a 64-storey tower complex that will offer guests the chance to shop in its retail units on the lower floors, while the upper floors house 787 5-star luxury guestrooms and suites, as well as an array of exciting entertainment and creative outlets typical of Paramount properties. There is also a selection of private residences, which offer a home away from home, but with access to the high-profile brand’s exclusive amenities.
