The creation of Bodyfix handmade mattresses, made by Candia

The creation of Candia’s handmade Bodyfix mattress collection started in 1980. Until today, Candia remains the only Greek company that creates mattresses by hand, following the traditional 'honeycomb nesting by hand, side stitching and hand tufting' technique.

Handmade masterpiece

The creation of Candia’s handmade Bodyfix mattress collection started in 1980. Until today, Candia remains the only Greek company that creates mattresses by hand, following the traditional ‘honeycomb nesting by hand, side stitching and hand tufting’ technique.

In the first stage of the Bodyfix handmade mattresses’ creation, Candia produces the Cotton Calico springs from high-quality steel wire, placed in individual pockets made of 100% natural cotton.

Then the ‘heart’ of the Bodyfix mattress is made by the unique ‘hand honeycomb nesting’ technique, according to which the springs are placed and stitched together in a honeycomb shape, resulting in the absence of any gaps and the perfect support for all body types. Only natural raw materials are used as comfort materials by excluding the use of chemicals.

For the next step, there is the side binding, known as ‘side stitching’. A technique that passes from generation to generation and binds the mattress, as it is stitched around perimetrically with a needle.

This process requires patience and accuracy to achieve the best possible result, ensuring the stability of the materials.

The fabrics are processed with olive oil. This olive oil treatment is a patented innovation for which we are proud, since it proves our dedication to quality and our never-ending attempt to develop sleep systems. Through this processing, the fabric offers antibacterial protection and all the beneficial qualities of olive oil, known since ancient times for its beneficial qualities towards the skin.

Finally, the creation of the handmade Bodyfix mattress is completed by following the ‘tufting’ technique. The technique is achieved by binding the mattress at each side from the top towards the bottom in several spots. Such binding is guaranteed by using strips of Kevlar fabric, thus ensuring the stability of the mattress.

The result is a masterpiece. It feels like sleeping on a cloud.
