Owned and operated by White Lodging, the newly opened Moxy Austin-University boasts 162 rooms, a cocktail bar and a 24-hour taco counter.
Marriott International’s youth-oriented lifestyle brand Moxy has landed in another major city.
Moxy makes its debut in Texas
The 22nd Moxy-branded property in the US – but first in the Lone Star State – is located close to the University of Texas at Austin campus. Marriott’s positioning this 162-key property as a ‘playground’ that will appeal to ‘spirited Fun Hunters’ ready to make the most of its onsite accommodation, cocktail bar and 24-hour taco counter.
Moxy Austin-University is owned and operated by White Lodging, which is behind a string of prominent hospitality venues across the city, including the recently opened Zanzibar rooftop bar.
Fun all day long
Marriott’s dynamic brand prides itself on offering unconventional hospitality experiences, and Moxy Austin-University is no different.
Austin is a city that consistently breaks the mould, so perhaps it’s no surprise that this new hotel boasts some quirky features of its own; interestingly, the property is organised around a variety of indoor and outdoor common spaces, whose design is colourful and at times eccentric, encouraging guests to let loose and break the rules. Perhaps the highlights are the 150-seater indoor living room and outdoor backyard space, where guests can enjoy the Got Moxy cocktail they received upon checking in.
Moxy Austin-University’s mostly female leadership team is captained by Lynn Snyder, formerly co-captain of Moxy Chicago’s opening team.
Snyder said: “The space at Moxy is unlike any other near campus and we’re assembling the best team to bring the #PlayOn mantra to life in safe and unexpected ways. I’ll just say this: if you thought Austin was weird before, buckle up.”
An Ikea affiliate has teamed up with Marriott International to develop a chain of hotels in the same affordable, compact and stylish vein as the furniture store.
