Hilton Worldwide has signed an agreement to open Sé Catedral Hotel Porto, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, in Portugal’s second largest city.
This exciting new hotel is slated for an early summer 2021 debut. We look into what you can expect from the property and the wider significance for Hilton Worldwide’s fast-growing brand.
A new hotel in a stunning location
The opening of Sé Catedral Hotel Porto, Tapestry Collection by Hilton promises to bring a new guest experience to Porto. This 77-room property in the city’s Unesco World Heritage area is owned by Referência Arrojada, a subsidiary of Mercan Group of Companies, and will be operated under a franchise agreement with Hilton.
Tapestry Collection by Hilton highlights one-of-a-kind properties that embrace local culture. Being a part of the collection provides these hotels with the reassurance of the Hilton name and the benefits of participating in the Hilton Honors programme.
“Sé Catedral Hotel Porto will be an impressive debut for Tapestry Collection by Hilton in Portugal, and we’re pleased to partner with Mercan Group,” said Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president of development in EMEA for Hilton. “Tapestry Collection is gathering momentum in Europe, and with new hotels planned in destinations including Paris and Madrid, we see significant scope for growth across the continent.
“In particular, we expect this expansion to be driven by conversion opportunities, as hotels seek to benefit from visibility in front of 110 million Hilton Honors members whilst maintaining a unique look and feel.”
“We are very happy to announce our partnership with Hilton to operate this hotel under Tapestry Collection, which is perfectly suited to the property and neighbourhood,” added Jordi Vilanova, president of Referência Arrojada and vice-president of Mercan Group of Companies. “Porto continues to attract travellers from all over the world and we are confident that with its unique style and prime location in Porto’s cultural hub, this hotel will quickly become a favourite with guests seeking original, upscale hospitality.”
A varied heritage and lifestyle offering
Sé Catedral Hotel Porto, Tapestry Collection by Hilton will immerse guests in the rich heritage and vibrant nightlife of the surrounding neighbourhood. Nearby attractions include the 12th-century Sé Cathedral, Clérigos Tower and Livraria Lello, with easy access to transport hubs including the famously decorative São Bento Train Station and Francisco Sá Carneiro International Airport.
Best known historically for its port wine, but now offering an array of leisure and entertainment options, Porto is among the most popular destinations for travellers in Western Europe. Sé Catedral Hotel Porto, Tapestry Collection by Hilton will add to the city’s lifestyle offering with its own onsite restaurant and bar.
When it opens, this hotel will join a portfolio of over 40 unique properties across the world.
