Views from the hotel to the Himalayas

Indian hotel group Taj has landed in Rishikesh with a new hotel that offers guests a truly local experience

Taj follows up its February opening in Shimla with a new offering in the backpacker and yogi haven of Rishikesh.

Rishikesh is one of the most popular destinations in the Indian Himalayas in the province of Uttarakhand.

We find out more about this enviable opening.

Rishikesh becomes home to latest Taj offering

Rishikesh is a town in India’s Uttarakhand province and has the privilege of being in the Himalayan foothills.

This is a prime location for a hotel, but few companies have the distinction of having an address there.

This gives Indian hotel group Taj all the more reason to celebrate the recent opening of the Taj Rishikesh Resort & Spa.

The new hotel follows in the footsteps of another Taj opening this year, the Taj Theog Resort and Spa in Shimla.

The hotel will be the second resort to welcome guests in Rishikesh in time for the summer, along with the 16-villa boutique offering The Rosate Ganges.

Both properties will be alongside the River Ganges, the sacred body of water which runs through Rishikesh.

Taj Rishikesh and Himalayan design

The hotel’s design reflects its incredible setting, offering guests views over both the river and the Himalayan foothills through expansive picture windows in the guest rooms and a curtain wall glazing the bar and lounge.

79 guest rooms, three dining venues and a luxurious spa are spread over an area of 12.5 acres, which spans gardens and sloping riverbanks.

The material palette used in the interior is natural, making use of timber and stone to reflect the nature that can be found outside the hotel and in its immediate surroundings.

Interior decoration is kept minimal, with a neutral colour palette used to accentuate the views of the landscapes outside.

The building’s form and silhouette take their cues from the local Garhwal region’s architecture and uses bare rock and stone in the exterior cladding.

Guests can dine in one of the hotel’s three restaurants, which offer a choice of classic American diner dishes, pizza or an array of local cuisine.

There are also direct transfers from the hotel to many of the town’s sights, including the city’s beautiful temples and rafting stations by the river.
