A new 153-key hotel in Charleston’s Wild Dunes beach resort community offers an inviting retreat for couples, families and wedding parties in the South Carolina Lowcountry.

Hyatt Hotels Corporation has announced the launch of a newly built signature hotel, Sweetgrass Inn. It’s located on four acres of Wild Dunes Resort, a Destination by Hyatt-branded scheme occupying 1,600 acres of oceanfront.

A connection to Lowcountry culture

Taking its name from the indigenous sweetgrass that grows along the South Carolina coast, Sweetgrass Inn is tucked into the dunes of the Isle of Palms barrier island.

This new hotel offers modern, coastal-inspired accommodation along with high-quality amenities. The property’s 153 guestrooms and suites are joined by two dining outlets, a spa, an expansive pool deck and premium event space. Visitors also have access to the golf courses, tennis club and white-sand beaches of Wild Dunes Resort.

The hotel was developed by longtime Wild Dunes managing partner Lowe and partner Dart Interests.

“We believe Sweetgrass Inn resonates with today’s traveller seeking a warm sense of belonging through connections to our unique Lowcountry culture,” said Robb Walker, managing director at Wild Dunes Resort. “When families visit Wild Dunes Resort, they have the opportunity to create a tradition.

“We are fortunate to welcome generations of families that have been coming year after year and have fallen in love with the history and beauty of the Lowcountry. The growth of our resort experience continues this tradition, and the opening and addition of Sweetgrass Inn as a distinct, true-to-place resort is certain to serve as the backdrop for countless family memories.”

Charleston’s coastal lifestyle

The spacious accommodation here provides views over the Atlantic Ocean and Lowcountry marshes, as well as the Charleston city skyline and Arthur Ravenel Jr Bridge. Guestrooms ranging from double queen and king to one-bedroom suites combine contemporary design with a coastal aesthetic.

Sweetgrass Inn’s dining options comprise casual restaurant and bar The Laughing Gull, serving island-inspired poolside cuisine, and The Oystercatcher Restaurant & Bar, specialising in fresh local seafood.

While staying here, guests can unwind at the 10,000 sq ft Spa at Sweetgrass, which houses 14 treatment rooms plus indoor and outdoor relaxation spaces – including a 3,000 sq ft private outdoor spa garden with plunge pools and cabanas – or the 2,750 sq ft fitness centre. What’s more, the hotel’s new pool deck features a zero-entry pool, hot tub and kid’s splash pad with poolside programming for families.

Functions are catered for across 30,000 sq ft of event space, including Indigo Room & Rooftop offering a 3,000 sq ft ballroom and 6,000 sq ft terrace; the 8,000 sq ft Osprey Ballroom & Terrace, accommodating up to 800 people; and the 570 sq ft Avocet Boardroom, perfect for hosting more intimate meetings.
