May 2024 saw IHG Hotels & Resorts reveal three signings in Europe for its Staybridge Suites extended stay brand. New sites have been added to the pipeline in Budapest, Hungary, Antwerp in Belgium and Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Long an established favourite in the USA for long stay travellers and those working on projects away from home, Staybridge offers residential style studios and apartments in a mix of sizes to suit the needs of single visitors, couples or those with families visiting, complete with amenities that include fully equipped kitchens and flexible workspace. Hotels include a buffet breakfast, a fitness centre, laundry facilities and a 24 hour convenience store. For those seeking amenable time and the opportunity to socialise with other fellow Staybridge guests, there are regular early evening events, curated by the local Staybridge team.
Growing in Europe
First of the three to open will be Staybridge Suites Antwerp, which will launch in partnership with Borealis Hotel Group in late 2026, with 99 rooms. The hotel will be the first Staybridge in the country, and will be located close to the city’s train station.
In 2027, the Belgian Staybridge will be joined by Budapest, which will see a 152 unit hotel open in the Hungarian capital as part of UDI Group’s new Parkside mixed use development. The property will operate under a franchise agreement with Mogotel Hotel Group. And expected in late 2027 will be the 132 room Staybridge Belfast, part of the Bedford Yard development in the city centre. This will be the fourth IHG hotel owned by Andras Group.
Launched in France
The new signings fit into an already busy opening schedule for Staybridge, which sees it spread across mainland Europe with a pipeline of nine to add to an already open portfolio of ten hotels. Last November, the first French Staybridge opened in Cannes, where the 81 room property is already a favourite with business travellers, being just minutes from the destination’s main train station and in the heart of the action off the Croisette. Later this year, the brand will launch in Spain with the opening of a property in Malaga.
Aside from Europe, the Staybridge brand continues to grow globally. Currently there are 324 properties trading, with a further 171 due to launch within the next five years. For sites where Staybridge is not the right fit, the group also has complementary long stay brands, Candlewood Suites and Atwell Suites.
