Meliá Hotels International, one of Spain’s largest companies, has boosted its Chinese footprint by opening a 230-key resort with its own helipad.

Meliá Hotels International, one of Spain’s largest companies, has boosted its Chinese footprint by opening a 230-key resort with its own helipad.

The new Meliá Chongqing is likely to appeal to families, ‘bleisure’ travellers and event organisers among others.

Mediterranean bliss in Chongqing

Meliá Hotels International’s latest property in China is located in the picturesque city of Chongqing, and more specifically within the leafy Tieshanping Forest Park. The hotel is the latest example of the group’s ongoing expansion into the People’s Republic.

Bernardo Cabot, area managing director for China at Meliá Hotels International, said: “We are delighted to unveil Meliá Chongqing, which marks the seventh property of the group in China.

“We are proud to bring Meliá Hotels & Resorts brand into historical and cultural Chongqing. Chongqing is a city with warmth and passion, and Meliá’s Mediterranean roots give us our natural Spanish warmth and spontaneity: fundamental in creating the Meliá experience.”

Soothing views of Tieshanping Forest Park

The 230-key Meliá-branded resort boasts convenient access to downtown and Metro Line 4, as well as Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport and Chongqing North Railway Station. Its guestrooms have balconies that overlook Tieshanping Forest Park, creating a feeling of being in a calm oasis.

Business travellers, meanwhile, can avail themselves of the conference centre, situated within the hotel complex; this facility offers over 6,200 sq m of flexible event space, including a Grand Ballroom, Grand Theater, Oval Room, multifunctional conference rooms, boardroom and VIP rooms. There are also outdoor lawns ideal for weddings and ceremonies – plus a helipad that could come in handy for spectacular product launches.

Other onsite amenities include Meliá’s signature YHI Spa, a 24-hour fitness centre, indoor and outdoor heated pools, and a kids club. Moreover, there are six F&B options available, serving up tantalising dishes from China, Spain and beyond.
