Six Senses will be opening a mountainside resort and branded residences in Colorado’s San Juan Mountains, set to open in 2028.

Mountainside retreat

Six Senses Telluride will be situated just above the town in Mountain Village, in a box canyon flanked by the 14,000-foot peaks of the San Juan Mountains.

The 77-key resort and 24 branded residences will have LEED Silver certification.

Architects Vault Design provided the visual guide for the resort, opting for natural materials with local and historic relevance. The exteriors comply with the town standard, and the finishes will blend cedar siding and local stone.

Interiors are designed by Rose Ink Workshop, with a warm, light palette utilised throughout the resort.

The 24 branded residences will range from two to five bedrooms, and some will feature a den. They will also include a gym, cinema, lounge, and games room.

The multiple food and beverage spaces will include a speciality restaurant, Omakase dining, the only rooftop venue with a pool in Telluride, and a speakeasy bar. A retail, market hall, and conference space will be open to the surrounding community.

Neil Jacobs, CEO, Six Senses, said, “Becoming an active part of the community is hugely important to us and so where better to begin our North American mountain adventure than Telluride, with the global sophistication of Mountain Village and eclectic old-world nature of the town below. Having lived in the Colorado Rockies in the 1980s, I can attest to the mountain environment lending itself to the expression of our values around wellness and sustainable development today.”

New location for IHG

As part of IHG Hotel & Resorts’ Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio, Six Senses Telluride also marks IHG’s first luxury resort and residences in North America’s Mountain West region.

Telluride is one of the most popular mountain towns in the Colorado Rockies. Designated a National Historic Landmark District, the former mining town is known for its film, jazz, and blues festivals and its arts and community events.

The area has easy access to a vast ski domain in winter and nature-based activities in spring and summer.

The development team, led by Matthew Shear and David Jaskel at The Vault Home Collection, has been working closely with Six Senses to bring a one-of-a-kind outdoor and wellness-driven hospitality and residential experience to the Telluride area.

Commenting on the partnership, Matthew said, “We are delighted to be joining forces with Six Senses. The spectacular Colorado landscape, sublime snow conditions, and quaint community-feel of Mountain Village inspired us to lay roots here. This project is the culmination of our ongoing collaboration with Six Senses to open this premier mountain destination to the world’s most discerning travelers and residents. Our shared vision is to ensure Six Senses Telluride is nothing short of spectacular.”

Six Senses Telluride is a 387-mile drive from Denver International Airport, a 68-mile drive from Montrose Airport, and a seven-mile drive from Telluride International Airport.

A free, eight-mile pedestrian gondola connects Mountain Village to the historic town in a 13-minute ride, while also providing ski access.

It expands Six Sense’s presence in the U.S. with previously announced signings including Six Senses Napa and Six Senses South Carolina Islands.

Six Senses Grand Bahama and Six Senses Xala on the Pacific Coast of Mexico are also under development.
