Six Senses La Sagesse, the brand’s debut Caribbean resort, is set to open in Grenada in late 2022, featuring 56 guestrooms, seven one-bedroom villas and five two-bedroom villas.

The resort and residences will be laid out across the natural topography of 38 acres of land on a headland on the southern part of the island.

Locally inspired design

Space, privacy and uninterrupted views over the sea all promise to be characteristics of the forthcoming resort. Taking inspiration from the region’s traditional architecture, with no building higher than a palm tree, the resort’s diverse accommodation offering will come together to mimic a Caribbean village encompassing a beach and lakefront promenade. Repurposed nutmeg shells and cacao skins will make up the garden’s walkways.

Elevated on a bluff with 270-degree views will be several contemporary residences, which are available for purchase. The proposed three- and four-bedroom green-roofed residences sit within 21,500 sq ft of landscaped gardens, each with its own 56 ft horizon-edge pool and wraparound pool deck. These homes are designed to blur the lines between inside and out, with a covered bar and barbecue terrace that meets the lawn with palm canopy.

The overall design takes mental, physical and spiritual happiness into account with abundant light, ventilation and calming space for remote working. Owners of these homes will have access to all of the resort’s services and amenities.

Connecting guests with the surroundings

The resort’s Experience Centre will act as a community hub for booking water sports, excursions and spa treatments, as well as browsing the boutique, relaxing in the library and learning about botanicals in the Alchemy Bar. In addition to having a teens’ lounge and children’s play centre, the resort will offer Grow With Six Senses Activities, and the surrounding landscape will provide the setting for activities such as a jungle gym, forest bathing and candlelight yoga.

Excursions from here will include experiencing shipwreck dives, spice trails, hiking to waterfalls and seeing the underwater art of Molinere Underwater Sculpture Park. Guests will be able to explore Grand Etang National Park and Grenada’s capital St George’s as well.

Six Senses Spa at La Sagesse will overlook the resort’s lagoon and is laid out in the style of a fishing village. Here, wellness experts will bring local wellness traditions and the healing benefits of indigenous plants into a menu of spa treatments and rejuvenation journeys.

Local cuisine and sustainability

Just like the brand’s other properties, this resort will place much of its focus on sustainability, operating on a self-sufficient and plastic-free basis, while implementing a landscaping strategy that promotes mangrove enhancement.

Ingredients will be picked from the garden and native fruit trees and seafood will be sourced from local fisherman. Using these sustainably sourced local ingredients, the resort will provide a dining experience that differs each day in the conservatory, bakery, gallery and beach dining room, as well as private dining room and raw bar.

The signature restaurant will serve Creole-inspired menus, among them plant-based dishes using locally foraged ingredients. Destination dining options will include beach blanket barbecues and a chef’s garden culinary experience, as well as in-villa dining. At Sand Bar, which is to offer rum-making workshops, guests will be able to use the swim-up bar and create their own botanical bases in the Fermentation Lab.

Continuing the resort’s sustainability efforts, Six Senses La Sagesse will be bottling its own water at the Water Bar, a group-wide initiative to avoid transporting as many as two million plastic bottles each year. And to involve guests in sustainability efforts, the Six Senses Earth Lab will deliver workshops exploring the natural world and providing carbon-reduction tips.
