Six Senses has unveiled plans to open a luxurious new 95-key hotel in central Rome.

Luxury hotel brand Six Senses is to make its Italian debut with a stunning new property in the heart of Rome. Set in the historic Palazzo Salviati Cesi Mellini, Six Senses Rome is sure to be a hit with sophisticated travellers looking for an exclusive urban experience. We find out more.

La dolce vita at Six Senses

Due to open in the latter half of 2021, Six Senses Rome will be a 95-key luxury hotel boasting a spa, signature restaurant and a rooftop terrace and bar, affording panoramic views out over the city. The hotel will be located within the newly restored Palazzo Salviati Cesi Mellini, which dates from the 18th century and is conveniently situated on the central Piazza di San Marcello, just a stone’s throw away from Rome’s biggest highlights, including the Trevi Fountain, Pantheon and the Roman Forum.

Designing a hotel fit for the Eternal City

The Palazzo Salviati Cesi Mellini was built in the 18th century and has housed many esteemed residents over the years, including cardinals, priests and nuns. The building’s facade is Unesco-listed as a heritage monument and is being restored back to its former glory, while the interiors of the new Six Senses hotel are being designed by Patricia Urquiola.

The design draws on modern trends of living and travelling, with the ground floor and courtyard/terrace intended to be more open and public, ideal for informal events, gatherings and performances. Elsewhere, the famous Six Senses Spa will be located on the first floor, and this area will invoke historic Roman baths in its execution. The middle floors will house the guest rooms while crowning it all will be a rooftop bar and terrace, the perfect place to spend an evening sipping a cocktail and enjoying the sights and sounds of Rome.
