Sporting a frame, façade and interiors made from wood, Scandic Sundsvall Central in Sweden will demonstrate the capacity for hotels to embrace sustainability when it opens in 2024.
This 210-key property will combine strong green credentials with an appealing location in the city’s harbour area.
A burgeoning area
Fresh from signing a long-term lease agreement with Skanska, Stockholm-headquartered hotel operator Scandic has signalled its intention to launch the 210-key Scandic Sundsvall Central hotel in the Swedish city of Sundsvall.
“Scandic’s new hotel in Sundsvall will be a modern and attractive meeting place ideally located in an exciting area where we can see a growing demand for hotel accommodations,” said Peter Jangbratt, head of Scandic Hotels Sweden. “We’ve been developing the hotel together with Skanska for the past two years and naturally, it feels extremely positive to be further strengthening our hotel offering in the city.”
Joakim Åkesson, regional manager at Skanska SverigeIt, added: “It is gratifying to now have Scandic as a tenant – a company that shares our values in terms of sustainability and with which we have worked closely in other projects.”
Impressive eco-credentials
Scandic Sundsvall Central is to be located alongside the city’s harbour, as well as its railway station. The hotel’s 210 rooms will be joined by a cosy ground-floor restaurant and bar area, along with spa facilities, a gym and meeting rooms providing views over the Bothnian Sea on the first floor.
It’s envisaged that the trailblazing building will feature a frame, façade and interiors made from wood, while energy-efficient materials and solar panels will be installed on the roof. The scheme, which plans to be 100% carbon-neutral, is aiming for Leed Gold certification.
Due to launch in 2024, the property will bolster Scandic’s presence in Sundsvall. The company already operates two hotels and 312 rooms in the up-and-coming city.
